Default 05 Satellite Radio Retrofit?

Hi Everyone -

Took delivery of my 05 Cayenne S eleven days ago and I am basically in love with it. So far I've driven just over 300 miles and have not experienced any of the lurching, wheel vibration or other mechanical problems associated with the 03 and 04s (knock on my wood steering wheel ) with the exception of condensation in the xenon headlights and crappy AM radio reception .

I was very bummed to discover that my ipod would not work in any way with the pcm via my store bought fm modulator (itrip). When I ordered the 05, I didnt think much about getting satellite radio as an option, since its extremely overpriced ($900), and I figured I could just use my ipod for music. Now, I am re-considering.

Does anyone know for certain if satellite radio can be retrofitted to the 05 Cayennes with PCM? My dealer thinks this may be possible as the new PCMs have a "SAT" button on them regardless of whether or not you ordered satellite radio, but doesnt know for sure. He also thinks that an antenna for sat radio may be in every 05 already, but he is looking into this for me, etc.

Does anyone have any reliable info on this?

Thanks!

Good luck. With every other option, Porsche build the vehicle with only the wires, connectors and connector contacts for the configuration, as the vehicle leaves the factory.

They do this so that the wire savings may be passed directly to the customer.

The down side is that to add an option after the fact, the vehicle must be ripped apart and new wires run alongside the vehicle wiring harness.

C'mon, Don! Tell us how you really feel! Why, I'm relatively certain that Porsche passed on the $12.93 (10.45 Euro) in savings to me when they didn't include the wiring for assorted sensors and headlight configurations!

Baileybonds,

You should be able to wire your RF modulator without a problem.

Why do you think it "would not work in any way with the PCM?"

Many folks (myself included) use mp3 players in our '03-'04 PCM equipped cars via RF modulators. Surely, the '05 must have an FM antenna cable, and this is where the modulator is connected.

My dealer was told that you can not retrofit sat radio into a Cayenne once it is built.

This sounds like a job for Toby, PhD in Porsche Electronics Retrofit

Lewis,

Sorry..... I've got my 930 in about a million pieces right now, so Cayenne science projects have to wait!

Cams arrive this week, along with the oil coolers and engine tin and fan that were just powder-coated. Time to put this baby back together!

Toby

P.S. - Doug.... sorry, my mistake on your name. Old age is a helluva thing to deal with. TBP
