Default CD Changer in 05 v.s. 04

The 2003/2004 Cayennes were not pre-wired for a CD Changer...unless, of course, you ordered it from the factory.

Is the 2005 pre-wired....I heard that it might be.

That is unlikely for several reasons. First, Porsche does not add a single wire, contact or connector that is not required for the vehicle as configured from the factory. Second, the disc changer is connected on the MOST ring. As the description implies, this is an unbroken loop, with the output of one device connected to the input of another device. As such, it is not possible to have unused fiber optical cable connectors, ready to connect a device, such as a disc changer that may be added in the future.

Thank you.

The reason for the inquiry is that I had been seeing CD changer instal quotes for less (on an 05) than what I had seen for an 04.....we thought the difference might be attributable to a pre-wire.

Actually, Porsche did consider the use of a spare MOST connection, terminated with a simple optical loopback connector, but it was rejected for recurring cost reasons (remember, they designed a VIN specific wiring harness to save standard wire!) and hence put the optical cable into the CDC install kit.

Porsche has simply changed the install time specified for the CDC based on field experience (recall, this was the first MOST vehicle for them.....actually Porsche was in the field before Audi and Mercedes), as the original was on the high side.
