brent, as i said, i understand why somebody might want to buy a 44-45k v6, but a 53k v6 when you can get a v8 for similar price-then i agree with you. why would you purposely buy a slow porsche? to each his own, i guess.

Are you talking to me? Ouch! (Assuming you're right of course)

Hello,

I'm new to this forum. My wife and I have been looking at various SUV's and we have narrowed it down to either the Cayenne V6 or the new Land Rover LR3. To all of you CV6 owners, have you had any problems with your CV6's, as in engine, chassis, etc.... I'm going to go test drive the CV6 today, but was just wondering if there were any issues, that I would have to consider before buying it.

The reason why i'm looking into buying the CV6 is b/c it's going to be the wife's car and she doesn't care for the HP that the "S" has and with a baby on the way, $10,000-$15,000 savings(we're not going crazy with all the options) over the "S" would be great. Hopefully, in early November, I can post as a new Porsche owner and a new DAD.

Thanks for your time.

No John, that second part of the post was directed towards RUthless. The first part was in reply to your list of other slow P-cars, only one of which is actually slower than a V6 Cayenne.

racingdc9-i traded in a landrover freelander to buy my cs. i thought that the freelander was a quirky car, but it certainly seems that the lr3, with it's 300 hp engine, seems like it may be quite an interesting suv. what are they going to charge for a reasonably equipt lr3? i would be willing to bet that the c6 will be a better handling suv, but only time will tell. good luck with your choice, and congrats on the baby to be.

Doc: The LR3 SE model starts off at $45,000 and the HSE starts at $51,000. They only offer a couple of options for the car, like Bi-xenon(for SE, stock for HSE), 3rd row seat, rear A/c. The one I priced out would cost me around $48,500. Which isn't bad, but i've heard ppl say that Land Rover's are expensive to fix and to maintain, reliability isn't too great, etc..... Oh yeah, air suspension is stock on both models. At first, we were leaning towards the LR3 more, but i'm just worried about reliability.

racingdc9; another option to consider would be a used '03/04 'S' with Porsche's 6yr. 100,000 warranty.

racingdc3-pch makes a good point-for the same 47k, you could get a 1 yr old cs with a good warranty. you are correct to worry about the reliability of landrovers-any time i brought mine in, only 50% of the problems would be fixed. the porsches have historically been more reliable.

Hmmm. Sounds like an idea. I'll check into, pre-owned CS's, let's see if the wife will agree with the idea. Thanks for everyone's replies.

I'd consider a 6 because of the manual trans option. If Porsche would offer the manual on the V8, I'd go there, though! I just don't want a tip!

Brent89 sees a Porsche as one with power. I see a Porsche as one with a manual trans!

I absolutely agree that a manual trans should be part of the equation. The guys on the 928 board are always praising the auto trans, not in my sports car! Unfortunately it was wait for a VW V6 and manual or get a Porsche V8 and auto. I want to see them build a six speed manual TT Cayene with a light option load.

I won't disrespect anyone's purchase of a tip Cayenne, they are very nice vehicles! I have autocrossed a friend's (Pesky 914, posts here regularly) and have been very very impressed. I'd like to find a way to add a Cayenne to my garage. I'd be inclined to go used CS over C6, but I really, really prefer a manual trans (wife does, too, her dd is a 5 speed 4Runner).

I'd love to see a "lightweight" CTT 6 speed, too!!

Actually, I am pretty impressed with the auto in the Cayenne. What would make it work even better is if you could hear the engine better. It is tough to judge when to shift when it is so quiet inside. Of course, if you forget, it shifts for you The logic program actually works pretty well, if you drive it hard it holds gears longer in anticipation of the next corner. It seems to alter its character noticably depending on your mood. Still, it is a slushbox and has an annoying trait of dropping to third if you floor it to pass, and holding it there for a few seconds even if you back off to abort.

Default If it's not porsche , I dont want it

I can only afford the v6, and standard option is fine with me. I wouldnt trade it even if they came out with a twin turbo touareg, it's still not a porsche,
