Radar Detector
Hello Everyone I just bought a 2004 CS and I was wondering if any knows if our windows have a anti-lacerative coating on the inside. I just purchased the passport 8500 X50 and it says caution some porsches have this coating and it might leave permanent marks with the suction cups.

Dont worry about it..... I have an escort 8500 had the same warning as you did..... i have been using it for a long time and it didnt leave any permanent marks on my windshield.

have the V1, wasn't aware of the warning, but haven't any marks yet.
something else - driving desert FWYs in ca and az I would suddenly get
a strong signal, like being in a direct beam - the only thing around
being Semis - any explanation?

I had a lot of false warnings going cross country in Feb. I guessed it was picking up semi's radio or their V1.
I sure would like to know if that was it..

That could be construed as a back door confirmation of the detector's ability.

Speaking about the V1, I have the smoker's package, so can I connect the V1 to a power outlet in the front, or there is no outlet except the one in the back?
It's funny but I truly don't know if I have a power outlet in the front or not? Any help

There are two outlets, under the passenger side dash, adjacent to each other, near the firewall and the center console. These are always on.
9JA Non-Smoker Package?

Yes yesss
I guess I was on crack, I meant the Non-smoker's package
I have no outlet in the ashtry's place, I tried to look around before but I didn't find any outlet in the front. Is that right?
Please don't tell me the only way to go is to hook up the V1 to the back seat's outlet

The outlets are way up under the dash at the passenger's footwell. You have to get on the floor under the dash to see them. If you don't get down you will never find them.

As for sudden radar "hits" with nobody around. I've seen several of these from time to time. Most common false positive sources:
1) Stationary Objects. Door openers, alarms and etc. that use radar will create a hit. These are ususally x band and can be ignored.
2) Other cars. Many cars and trucks these days have "adaptive" cruise control. Some of these units are radar based. Most seem to be k band.
3) Low flying aircraft. While driving on I-8 in southern nevada, I suddently got a very strong Ka hit. I hit the brakes and moved right. Ten seconds later two A10 jets screamed overhead. Once they passed, the alert ended.
In California, I pretty much ignore anything but Ka. The CHP uses Ka almost exclusively. Local juristdictions sometimes use K. I have never had a legitimate x band hit and I always ignore those.
