I currently have Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico 275/45/19's
I need new tires. The Pirelli's have been okay...A liitle noisey as they wore and they wore pretty quick. If someone has any experience with 19's... I would be interested in alternatives. The only one I have come up with in this size is Continental 4x4 SportContact. They are considerably more expensive...$260.00 per tire vs. $209.00 for the Pirelli's. Are the Continentals worth the extra cost??? Thanks

Hi Chris I trust you are well.
I have been on the factory Conti's from new, I am at 17000 and changing 2 (2 were already replaced by the dealer FOC).
How many miles did you get out of them, I thought you were on the Tireack specials thru winter ? and the roller skate a lot of the time.

I just put the Rossos on my 20" rims and I'm not overwhelmed with their preformance. I choose the Pirelli's because they had a higher treadwear factor (300), higher load rating and were cheaper than the Michelins.
As with most newer tires, the ride was improved tremedously (I can use the Sport setting without rattling my teeth). However, the handling is not quite as crisp. The saving grace will be longer tread wear and the jury is still out on that.
I have been disappointed with SportContacts on an A8 I owned. If I had to do over again I'd probably go with the Michelins. You may have more choices in the 19" tire size.

Drove another vehicle today, but I'm very sure the tires are the stock 20" size. 275/40/20 right? 295/45/20 would be interesting. I wonder how the wider tire would affect compatabilty with the rim. It would probably be a taller tire/wheel combo.

I'm also looking for replacement tires very soon. My S came with the Continentals. Initially, I was really disappointed that my car came with Conts as opposed to Pirellis. I never thought much of Conts - I thought the Sport Contacts that came with my 996 were horrendous. The Sport Contact 2s on my S4 were a bit better but still a far cry from Potenza S03s. However, the 4x4 Conts have been impressive... I get the feeling that they're completely different tires from the non-4x4 Conts. The ride is good, grip is awesome, and road noise is minimal even after 14,000 miles. But then again, maybe the car is making the tires look good.
How many miles do you have on the Pirellis? What is your style of driving and what % is freeway? I have 14,000 miless on my Conts. I am a semi-aggressive driver but 70% is freeway. The tires are getting VERY close (if not already) to the wear bar. Another 2,000 miles is my guess.
I'd like to try the Pirellis but hope they're as good or better than the Conts in terms of handling, road noise, and wear. The thing I hate most is getting a set of tires that perform poorly.

I have the 19" Conti's on my S and love them. I have 14,500 on them and estimate replacement will be necessary around 17-18,000...doubt I'll make it to 20,000. I will go with them again unless a 19" all season is introduced, and I would be happy to see that happen.

Miles on the Pirellis: 200
70% of my driving is on the freeway and at speed. Not too much traffic in Utah-yet. The Rossos almost have a mushy feel compared to the bald OEM Michelins I just replaced. The well worn M's were tight though had a very rough ride, even on the freeway at 85+. I picked the Rossos for the reasons above AND (I forgot to mention) a deeper tread pattern. They DO ride very well.
It is my hope that as the tire wear AND by toying with inflation pressures (currently 45 front and rear) the P's will perform as well as the M's and hopefully last longer.
I'm not positive, but I believe there are 2 versions of the Michelins available. Short tread life and very short tread life (sticky). If Porsche supplied the sticky ones as OEM, this could be why so many are unhappy with very short tread life.
If you are happy with the Conts I would stick with them on your next purchase.

npplaw, I like your license plate. I drove my buddies 996 TT for 2 weeks and it made me appreciate the C-TT that much more.
Do you take the Conti's to Tahoe??? I only run the 20" until October and then its on to the 18" Dunny M2's.

I may go with Continentals for my 19's. I did see michelins in 285/45/19. They say they can be mounted on 19x9 wheels. Somehow the rolling diameter is greater with the 285's even though both side walls are 45 with the P's and the Mich's
275 Pirellis: 725 revs/mile
275 Contis: 724 revs/mile
285 Michelin: 714 revs/mile
What is the implication of fewer revs per mile???
Going faster than the speedo indicates???
Any other issues of concern with fewer revs using the 285's???

Snowsled...yep, a little humor for the purists that considered the Cayenne an abomination. I did not venture up to Tahoe with the Conti's as I read horror story after horror story about summer-only compounds on snow. I did not like the idea, but thought discretion was the better part of valor for that one, but, that is why I am anxious to see an all-season 19" performance tire. If not soon, I will spring for a set of winter wheels.

I know snowsled said his Pirelli Rosso 20's had a treadwear rating of 300. Can anyone confirm the same is true for the 19's (275/45/19)? Tire Rack shows 300, the Pirelli book at TiresPlus shows 160. It's unlikely to be 160 but I want to make sure before ordering new tires.
