So you want to hear what a bad 4.5L sounds like…

It’s only worth buying for someone who wants to transplant the off-road equipment onto their good Cayenne.

This thing lived its whole life on the east coast. Mileage doesn’t matter when it comes to bore scoring. The number of times it was cold started in cold temperatures does.

ouch, I was not aware that scoring could happen so easily. I am only familiar with it from siezed rings are faulty injectors. Such a shame. I have read many places where guys in the off-road community swap to coilovers from air to build crawlers, but I don't believe I would go that route.

Unless the "diagnosis" includes borescoping every cylinder and the video of the results is posted to the auction:
Even then, if the scoring is underneath where the top of the piston is, the borescope wouldn't catch it. I'll just go with hard no, full stop. BAT should pull this one.

By the time you hear a tick, the damage should be high enough to see with a scope. This one sounds so bad, I bet one or two spark plugs will tell the whole story.
I like how things went from:
Everyone can relax there is nothing wrong with the motor.
To:
the car was dropped off this morning to Porsche SD to address the engine sound.
Any bets on how the seller is going to handle this?

It’s been a bit of a clown show so far. The seller was so dismissive, acting like we were just talking crap about his listing. IMO, that’s the best thing about BAT. Every listing should get torn apart and scrutinized, especially for crazy expensive issues like bore scoring.

Agreed. Hopefully the issue gets diagnosed properly (and there's no guarantee that it will), and the seller does the right thing and either discloses it so that people can bid accordingly, or pulls the listing entirely (he may have gotten screwed himself from the person he bought it from). Just as long as the next owner is fully informed prior to purchase.
