Steering Wheel/Airbag removal 957 help
I'm trying to remove my steering wheel to fit a new Steering Angle Sensor on my 2008 957 S - see here: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...d-16355-a.html
I've looked at all the various guides and so far I've managed to unclip the 2 retaining springs via the holes at 4 & 7 O'clock. They were easy, felt them pop straight away.
I was expected there to be some movement of the airbag or some play as it popped off the clips. But nothing. It hasn't free'd up at all. Still seems as firmly attached as before.
What am I missing? If I try to pulling on the top cover, that bends but I don't get the impression that the airbag is moving at all. I can't reattach the airbag to the springs, so I'm pretty stuck.
Any suggestions? All the guides seem to be for the 955/958. Is there something specific to the 957 I'm missing?

Mine came right off after releasing those 2 clips through the 2 holes. Is it possible when you tried to release the 2nd one the first reattached? You can access both of them at the same time if you turn the wheel 90 degrees.
Make sure the battery is disconnected!

I can get the right side to pop but not the left. Pushed the right back in and tried the left first but no joy. Is there a technique other than jemmy it with a screwdriver? There isn't much leverage room. Would be easier if you could remove the column cowling first.
Such a **** design. On my Impreza you just undo a couple of torx bolts. There are no springs or retaining clips. All so they can save 10 seconds on the production line....
