Default Buying a 150k miles 2010 4.8 a bad idea?

honestly, its the cleanest ive seen. 0 rust at all and where im from thats a rare sight. but its on sale from used car dealership, wich has good reviews, but that means no history. its also priced very decently. would you risk it? it also has one of the "good engine codes" wich i found in the cayenne boom survey thread.

Without knowing it's maintenance history, there are a few things you might want to consider when making the decision:

1. Read the following link if you haven't already. It provides a wealth of insight into the various models and associated problems:

2. Ask the dealership if they will permit a PPI at your expense. (And maybe even offer to share the results them) If the car is generally in good shape, they may offer to fix anything minor. Your local PCA region probably has several people that might be willing to help you inspect the car.
3. Take a test drive, and invite someone along that really knows Cayenne's for their observations / opinion. If you are mechanically inclined, they could give you an idea of what it would take to repair anything found. Using a Porsche dealership to repair or replace something will be VERY expensive.
4. Spend the money for a Carfax, to see what (if any) accidents, repairs or services the car may have had. It would also tell you the number of owners, and how long they owned the car.

I drive an '09 Cayenne S with 190K miles on it and have religiously maintained it. Mechanically, it's perfect. The '09 and '10 4.8s are considered by some to be the best of the Cayenne engines -- BUT the one you're looking at is a huge gamble without having a much better idea about its maintenance history. Get as much info about the car as you can.

A final note: one popular axiom about Porsches is..."a cheap Porsche can end up being the most expensive car you will ever own..." Trust your instincts.

yes you will get it and all of the problems will start, many many annoying ones, yet the car will keep running. Among just a few in no particular order

head liner will sag
ac blower will stop working
front differential will start making noise
rear bose amplifier will fail
the starter will fail
the cooling tube seals will begin to leak (hopefully the coolant tubes have been replaced
the door latching mechanism will fail not allowing the door to be opened
the power window switch unit will fail
the valve covers will start to leak
the engine mounts will fail
the fuel pumps will fail
the headlights will burn out and cloud up
the drive shaft center bearing will fail
the vacuum lines at the back of the block will split
the ignition coils will fail
the rear cup holder will jamb
the expansion tank and cap will fail
the stepper motor will start to lock up
the front hood struts and rear hatch and rear window struts will fail
the headlight harnesses will fail
