new pcm/audio unit but lose steering wheel functions
Mine is a 2008 Cayenne S with Bose. The pcm does not turn on so I have replaced it with a Sony unit.
Everything works except the 8 pcm/audio controls on the steering wheel.
There is no communication between the Sony unit and the steering wheel.
Can someone tell me what to do please ?

I used the Scosche adapter and everything works except the mute button and only because I didn't want to fish around the steering wheel column to find the wire. The Scosche adapter looks pretty much the same, probably all made in the same plant in China and just sold under different names. I'd say it is a wiring issue most likely.

I think Sony uses the 2.5 mm plug. I would check to see if that is plugged in (assuming the radio is SWC ready) and that the dip switches are correct. It won't work if either of those are wrong.

Well, the installation guy said the technical department called back and told him that in order to get the steering wheel controls to work, he needs to try out every steps in the "map" (I may be quoting him wrong because it is beyond my pay grade), but, the steering controls now work, as follows:
Left top = nothing
left middle two = vol up and down
left bottom = (original: mute) nothing
right top = (original : scan) nothing
right middle two = channels up and down
right bottom = (original has a music note) mute
$1700 including the back up camera mounted at the top of the hatchback; he said it is very difficult to run the wire down to the license plate area and he might break some trims doing it.

I ran the video wire for the backup camera the same as the OEM into the hatch through the wiring bundle in the upper right side of the hatch. I ran it up the right front pillar and then under the headliner. Only had to pull a little bit of the front headliner loose by the sunroof and then use a stiff wire (old coathanger stretched out and fish it to the very back of the headliner and into the area where the rear hatch strut is.

I noticed that one of the speakers at the back door has no sound. The installer said it was something to do with phasing of the OEM unit !!! whatever this means !!!
also the subwoofer control does not work. The installer said my cayenne does not have a subwoofer. So how do I increase the base ???
I am wondering if I should remove the axcess adapter and replace with the Scosche adapter ?
Also, what are the dip switch settings ?
Thanks.

Your installer sounds like a clueless hack. Did he even bother to test his install before giving it back to you?
Any competent installer should be able to run the camera wire from front to back in under 15 minutes. The A-Pillar comes off VERY easily and so does the small rear section of headliner with the dome light. Once those are off, you can fish a wire through in seconds.
One rear speaker not working has nothing to do with "phasing." Did you have the BOSE system which requires a MOST adapter?
The small speakers on the front and rear doors will have Bose emblems on them if you do. I don't think I've ever seen a PCM that didn't have the Bose system with subwoofer. No Bose is usually on a base model Cayenne with the CDR-23 head unit (single DIN, no screen).
Have you actually checked to see if you have a subwoofer? At this point, I wouldn't believe anything your installer has to say. Lift the trunk floor. If you don't have the optional spare tire, the sub will be right in front of you. If you have the spare tire, remove it to see if the sub is under it.

Dont laugh, but I am not strong enough to lift the spare tire up, but I do see the word Bose through the center tire hole.
Anyway, the money is gone, but I am thinking to replace AXXESS AXDIS-PO32 with another adapter.
Can you tell me what is the best adapter to buy ?
My car is a 2008 cayenne S with Bose and nav.
