Bought a broken 955 and looking for opinions.
Hello. I recently got an 06 ctts that wasn’t starting. Got it as is because it was a good deal the way it was, at the worst I could sell a few parts and make up the money I spent.
After troubleshooting a bit it sounds like the chain may need to be replaced (when it cranks, it sounds like the flywheel spins freely), I also just found that it has cylinder scoring in at least two of them.
I looked around for a new engine but it’s hard to find one that’s from a turbo S, and the ones I found were pretty expensive.
The car has 220k on it, need front pads and rotors and tires at the very least, not counting the engine of course. The body is in amazing shape and so is the interior.
Im mechanically enclosed but I don’t have a lift to drop the engine. Thought of maybe renting a shop at night to get it done when posible.
I would hate to see the car go to the junkyard given that the turbo s is a bit rare. That’s why I’m looking for your opinion.
Thanks!!

Even with interior and exterior in good shape, the mileage being so high is going to kill the value, even fully operational. If it was in perfect shape, it's likely a $8K-10K car right now, if you're lucky. I don't see how it would make sense to swap the engine, unless it was free. Part it out and recoup your investment. I may want the intercoolers.

Turbo amd Turbo S engines are exactly the same. The "S" comes from better intercoolers and more boost.
If the car is rust-free and the interior is in good shape an engine swap might be not unreasonable. I have seen 955 Turbo engines for as low as 1800. Of course if you need to pay for the 60 to 70 hours of labor it's a non-starter.

Yep, as he said, the Turbo and Turbo S engines are identical. Larger intercoolers and higer boost programmed into the ECU is the only change for the drivetrain. Then you've got bigger brakes, revised suspension module, badges, tend to have more optional items standard, etc...Same as the E81 package except the badges. Exact same as the E81 package even though Porsche claimed 500bhp for the E81 and 520bhp for the Turbo S. I guess the badges added 20bhp, better keep them on my CTTS so I don't lose 20bhp.

This guides are nearly 20 years old, old plastic....
For brakes the 380mm brakes are to expensive, just get 5mm spacers for the brake caliper braket and run 390mm discs from a newer Cayenne Turbo.

The problem is going to be finding an engine that is in good condition, cheap enough, and has a warranty that is long enough for you to install it and make sure it’s ok. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for keeping the car on the road…but with that many miles there’s bound to be lots of other things that will need to be replaced. It sounds like a huge money pit to me.
