Default Excessive tire wear

At 11,000 miles I thought I should have my tires rotated.

I didn't go to my dealer (didn't want to wait for appt); when the tech took off the front tires one was past a belt on the inside. I couldn't even see it. I was really p**sed, I just did 500 mi at high speeds.

I requested new tires. The dealer now is suggesting I buy new tires. I told him to keep the car, it's unsafe to drive and I'll decide what to do.

Does anyone remember the tsb for alignment issues.

I've heard some issues with tire wear running the air equipped cars at lower levels- wonder what experiences people with air cars have had compared to steel cars. I plan on running mine in the lower settings most of the time...

Lower air pressure usually wears tires on both outer edges. This wear was inside edge, dramatically..

Not sure but I had the same problem with my Land Rover Discovery with ACE. Could be caused by the weight of the car and taking corners to hard. The Cayenne and the LR2 are both pretty damn heavy.

Sorry to hear of your problem, but, not at all suprised. Everyone seems to have this issue sooner or later. I received two free tires at 11,000 miles and I know of several others who have received the same. As far as I know, it is the dealer's option though.

The TSB is #4495, Front Axle Alignment Specifications, issued 10-24-2003. The TSB goes on about the settling behavior of the front suspension and how the front alignment should not be done until the vehicle has 120 miles on it.

Hi Torags, What size wheels and what brand tires do you have on? The 18" Conti's should wear well ( at least 18-20k or so the CS). Hope the TBS would cover the tires.

I have the 18 Turanzas. The other three tires had normal wear patterns, the front a little more wear.

GM Austin thanks for the TSB advice.

My servicing dealer (Carlsen Porche, Menlo Park CA)rep is a very cordial nice guy. I was dissappointed when he resisted checking the Carden shaft after I told him I had vibration at 73mph (like clockwork).

He wanted to wait until new tires were installed and realignment. I explained to him, it's a manufacturing defect on a range of vins., and I just wanted him to have it verified.

The resistance really pissed me off, I'm reassessing my opinion of him.

And all it takes is service adviser go inline via phone with PAG to see if your car was affected. Less then 2 minutes..done. Hope it gets remedied and all. Regards. Mike

for what it's worth, PNA did an alighnment and replaced both front Turanza's on my steel spring S at 17,000 miles. I had had to buy the rears- got a pair of take-offs from a tire guy in Miami- $280 for both, including shipping.
