Default Purchasing Opinions

I am looking at purchasing a used Cayenne, both have pretty good documentation one is a 2006 Turbo S with 208,000 miles and the other is a 2008 Base S With 120,000 miles. both are priced identical which do you think is the best to purchase?

you might want to reconsider your phrasing, or put on a flame retardant suit.

All depends on how you plan to use it and what the maintenance history is. Regardless of options, etc....I like the lower mileage vehicle IF you plan to drive it regularly and wrack up the mileage. Turbo S is pricier to repair

Thank you very much, right know I'm heading back to the office 3 days a week and its about a 20 mile commute and dont want to put the unnecessary mileage on my 911, so it will start out as a commuter and maybe dwarf into an off roader over time.

I use my Cayenne S as my DD commuter with occasional 700+ mile work trips...been VERY dependable. Other than punching a hole in the ozone from 17mpg, performs flawlessly. It's a great commuter.

You’re literally looking at the extreme opposite ends of the Cayenne spectrum. I would suggest you narrow your focus a little more. What’s more important, gobs of horsepower, or some utilitarian purpose. As with any Porsche purchase consideration, lower mile, with good maintenance records vehicles bring a premium…is that premium important to you?

You didn’t mention your budget…$15k, $25k, more? A poorly maintained Cayenne, can very quickly need more maintenance that what it’s worth.

Narrow your choices, base V6…do you want a V8, or do you really want the TT?

Was more intrigued by the rarity of the 2006 Twin Turbo but the mileage scares me a little. While the 2008 S may be more practical to my needs. Commute, DD, maybe towing use and lower mileage and in my price range.

Also the 2006 has 3 owners and a 17 page carfax report most repairs at dealer, while the 2008 has 6 owners and a 6 page report.

I have zero interest in owning a Cayenne that's not at least GTS spec. They're heavy and without the v8 aren't very exciting to drive. Once I test drove a turbo, there was no looking back. Bought an 09 Turbo S and added another 100 HP to it.

I don't think I'd buy one with 200k miles on it unless it came with a stack of service records and drove perfectly with no issues.

We have an '09 S that is my wife's DD, occasional towing, and long distance road trips. 122k miles currently and it has been rock-solid dependable because I keep up on the maintenance. My wife loves it and it is great for hauling stuff from the home improvement store too. We plan to keep it until the wheels fall off. As much as it might be fun to have that Turbo, the high miles are a little concerning if it doesn't have comprehensive records.

The most important question hasnt been answered. Are you working on it or are you paying someone to work on it?

If you are paying, lower miles better documentation. If all you have is carfax, you have no documentation. If you have receipts with vin from real shops you can find on google, you might have documentation. If the shops arent some sort of euro specialist or Porsche specialist then i would question them. Even if they are, id still question them or at least look at reviews.

If you are working on it, price is what matters. You didnt list other than to say priced the same. $5k or $50k is the same but two very different prices.

We purchased a 150K mile CS 10 years ago from a single owner for $10K. Wasn't much risk if things didn't turn out at that price point. We've primarily used it for road trips and beyond the normal wear and tear, the P!G has been impressively reliable. It's sitting at 224K now. Plenty of power for just about all situations, of course, a Turbo S will be a no excuse performance hot rod in comparison.

For commuting, there's a bunch of different (better?) options, unless of course, you are targeting a Cayenne just because...
