Default Cayenne Diesel V8 rumor

Can this really be true - a diesel in a Porsche? Auto Bild says 2005 will see the Cayenne offered with a 4.0 V8 TDI as found in the new Audi A8 with 275bhp:

Judging from the poor photoshop of the 997 front end onto the Cayenne though, it might not be 100% accurate.

Maybe in Europe, but I doubt they'll bring it over here now. Our diesel is not the same mix as in Europe. Their diesel burns cleaner. We're supposed to be going to the 'cleaner' diesel mix by 2006. Then, maybe.

Our gas prices just went up to 82.5 cents per liter for regular. Premium fuel is at 92.5 cents per liter. Things like that make me think that mayeb we should have a diesel.

(Note: all prices are in Canadian cents)

It's suppose to go up to a $1/liter for regular this summer. Sadly I guess this means a lot less scenic routes and a lot more direct routes for me.

I wish I could have gotten my SUV in diesel.
I don't know how the poor people are gona take it when gas goes up to $1/liter. I think the Canadian Government should tax gas less so it doesn't hit us that hard.

You never know, diesel is getting pretty popular here in states also, with the gas prices these days it may happen before we know it.

I have a huntch that if a lot of cars start going diesel here in the US, the states will simply tax up the diesel to make it close to gas prices.

Heck, here in NY Diesel is sometimes MORE than gas,!!! If not, its very close. However, a lot of people are "illegally" filling their diesel's from their home heating oil tanks ("off road" Diesel).

Gas went up this morning to 89 cents per liter here. That means $1 per liter for premium fuel. Screw performance. Where's my diesel?!

The saddest thing is that I'm only partially kidding about this.

Welcome to the real world.

We're paying CHF 1.4/liter (=US$ 1.20) !!
Used to be in the CHF 1.2 - 1.3 range.

Just got email from Porsche introducing new 911 carrera. Low and behold the front end looks like this photoshop rendering, somebody is doing some accurate guessing. Question is will they modify? Reminds me of the Cayenne mule guesses three years ago.

I got the same email. This is it (the 997). When PCNA sends it out, it's for real.

My read: Be still my beating heart, I like it. Has a touch of retro - elegantly done.

Na, I bet ya they leave the Diesel side to VW and Audi in agreement that the S and Turbo stay ahead of their animals...

Kinda like VW coming out with the "longer" Touareg with the third row seats.... VW is the utility and Porsche is the perfomance, but that Audi might be right on the heels of our "Peppers"...

Me thinks its starting to smell a little too much like "Chevy and Cadillac" if ya ask me...
