Default Tire replacement?

It looks like Porsche recommends replacing both tires on the same axle.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret....jsp?techid=18

Is it safe to replace only the front or only the rear? I am working on a 2008 GTS and one tire is flat. My wife doesn't want to buy the rear tires unless she has too. Of course the tire place is very pro "replace all four".

What are the DOT code dates?

How many mm on the tires you want to keep?

Like LexVan is probably thinking, if the off side tire is new enough, then just replace the bad tire with a matching one. If I got a puncture that trashed a tire with a couple thousand miles, like the other side, I’d only replace the damaged one. If the tires are more than say 4 years old…match with new on both sides.

Thanks. What about only one axle? If I have four tires of the same age, but I need to replace two do I have to replace all four?

You didnt answer the questions. How old (DOT date) are the tires and how much tread is left.

If you bought tires a few months ago and they only have a few miles the tread depth will be near new. Replacing one tire is fine.

If you bought tires 6 years and 30k miles ago, id replace all 4.

Something in between? Measure the tread depth and see where it is.

An, gotcha.

that explanation made it clear. There is some documentation that onlyntires on the same axle make a difference.

fwiw I replaced all four. The backs were down to 4/32. Not bald, but certainly not new.

While we're on the subject, thoughts on snow tires on just the rear?

I now have 4 spare 20" 955 turbo-style rims to use to drop off at the local tire shop and tell them to take their time with mounting bargain tires I encounter.
I found a pair of Michelin Latitude X-Ice Xi2s with 10-1/2 / 32 tread for $220 and couldn't resist.
It's like I have a super power now since I'll never have to sit in the waiting room again.

Bad idea. You have an AWD car. A great way to spin a car in the snow is to have much more grip on only one axle. Happens even without snow when people run different tires on the front and rear of there cars and then get caught in heavy rain.

You can sometimes find a match with similar tread depth on Ebay. There is an allowable difference in diameter, maybe equal to a couple mm of tread depth. If you want to replace a pair check the specs as the rollout can vary even if the basic section/aspect-wheel match what you have now. Even from the same manufacturer, different models or versions can differ a bit in roll-out.

I just bought two front brand new cups 2 from tirerack and DOT 1st few weeks oif 2018 (WT.....) it was cheap enough ($305 each 265/35/19) i didnt mind keep and not shipped back.So i reached out to them and they credit my CC $100. Another rear set -305/30/19 Cups connect i paid $450 each and DOT was early 2019 and heat cycle, again i kept both. In most cases if tires are discounted ...most likely tires been sitting around.

Good suggestions. Thanks.
The only reason I'm looking at the fronts and rears independently is how quickly my fronts wear out. From now on with my 4 spare rims I'll always be taking pairs of tires off and putting them back on in a staggered manner, if not to replace them, at least to rotate them.
The Michelins just arrived today btw. Look brand new... real eye candy, to me anyway. I love new tires!
Forgot to look at the date code. Maybe I'll go out and look but it started to rain.
