trailer hitch ?
I got my 04 C S with all the options I wanted except the hitch. I just got off the phone with parts at my local dealer and they want $1200 for the Porsche hitch plus labor to install.
I just want to pull my 350 lb drift boat so I don't need brakes. Just a hitch and wiring for the standard 4 prong trailer plug.
Anyone have some cost effective options?

The link, in your post, has a comma in the url. That is fixed in this post.
What does the $350 at the dealer get: the part-only, the trailer lamp control module; labor-only, to install the part and update the vehicle with the PST2, or the part, installation and updating with PCM2?

I may have asked this before (I'm easily confused), but does anyone know if the OEM Touareg hitch is the same? I just have this gut feeling that if it is the same, it's probably half the price of the Porsche one. I'm leaning towards having the dealer install one (to be on the safe side) but don't want to pay 1,200 bucks for the part. Since my dealer is also a VW dealer, thinking they'd allow the use of the other part...hmmmm. I'm sure if I asked them they would pretend like they don't know.

The old rule of "you get what you pay for still works" I have a 2008 Cayenne GTS wit the factory towing package. In mid December my wife and I were hit in the rear while stopped at a light. The Suburban that hit us was going fast enough ( at least 20MPH) to deploy all his airbags in the impact Our factory hitch took the brunt of the impact. Yes it bent somewhat and is being replaced as is the bumper cover and the rear hatch, but there is no apparent frame damage. While they are replacing the rear hatch as it was damaged the glass was not broken and the hatch opened, closed and latched electrically after the impact. I am a strong believer in the Cayenne to protect occupants and survive. Get the Cayenne factory hitch... cost more but may save you and that is cheap insurance.

Why would one not put a hitch on that matched the capabilities of the car just in case you ever wanted to pull something or for resale value. I have been very happy pulling heavy loads with this vehicle.

I was hit in the back (slow) the other car was a mess and I suffered zero damage.
I tow a 14ft 4 wheel trailor up and down mountains, works a treat.
Why waste money for some theoretical payback on trade in
