Default Project car - Fuel pump on the way out?

Morning all,

So, the project continues. Thanks to those who replied on my moody turbo thread, the camshaft angle sensor appears to be dead so that's being sorted next month. In the mean time I went into the fuse box under the hood and found to my surprise that fuse 13 was a 25 amp not 15 and it was blown. I replaced with a 15 amp borrowed from my Cayenne S and it blew as soon as I gave the car some welly. So, I'm thinking the fuel pump is dead or dying and had blown multiple 15's before, which caused the last owner to put a 25 in. Now I think it's replace the pump time.

The question is, can the car run on an OE and an aftermarket VDO pump or will I have to replace both? And when I do, where EXACTLY are they? I'm hearing that they're under the back seat but not sure entirely where under the back seat or how to access them.

Thanks in advance.

I'd do both. If one failed the other one isn't far behind it. There are multiple threads on replacing them, and I believe we might even have one or two DIY threads in the Cayenne DIY forum. The pumps live in the fuel tank, and are accessed via ports under the bottom of the rear seat. There will be a lot of gasoline odor, and it's to your advantage to have minimal fuel in the tank when doing the job. I'd strongly suggest a chemical respirator (not just a "mask") and good gasoline proof gloves. I'd also suggest doing it outdoors just in case.. and I'm not sure what you mean by an "aftermarket VDO" pump - the OE pumps are VDO pumps. I don't know of any real aftermarket pump for these - just different vendors selling the same pumps.

Touareg pumps are identical. and replace the filter element while you are in there...ant the rubber gaskets around the caps. FCP Euro has them.
