For those that are not familiar the correct battery size in the 955 Cayenne is an H9 battery. There seems to be some debate about this fact on a few older threads. I purchased my CTT about two months ago and noticed it cranking noticeably slow, and suspected a weak or incorrect battery. I purchased a Champion H9 AGM battery last week and changed it out today. The previous battery is an H8 and is noticeably smaller (length wise), as well as substantially inferior in CCA and other important Amperage requirements. For those needing a new battery I highly recommend the Champion battery from PepBoys as it's currently $160 after discount and core swap. It's a steal for an identical match to the OEM battery (including VAG stamp on battery) with a 4 year warranty!
Old battery (H8) is a later 2018 production and tested perfectly. Simply put, it's too small and not strong enough to handle the electrical load of the 955 Cayenne. And no, you do not need to "register" the battery with the vehicle.

Picture 1: H8 battery. Notice the large gap between the battery and the battery box. Additionally, you are not able to see the bottom of the battery box where the battery does not slide into the bottom battery holder (lip).
Yep, good reminder about the H9 size and that looks like a great battery for a really good price. Mine is an H9 AGM from Napa, but was almost double that price, but I don't have a Pep Boys near me. Mine stays on a Battery Tender when not being driven, which is most of the time, so should last many years like my other AGM batteries. 12 years from one is my record - figure I'll get 7-8 years out of the Cayenne one following the same protocols.

I ordered the battery online with in-store pickup. Super good value for a high quality battery. But yes, battery tenders are a smart investment as well for any extended sitting of the vehicle.
I went cheap just over four years ago and put an 850CCA Calcium battery in my 955. It never let me down but the last two years it required frequent charging and rarely started on first turn. I just replaced it with a bigger 950CCA AGM battery that fully fits the space. What a difference with starting. It goes first turn each time. I also fitted a Bluetooth battery monitor.
That's a great price! Mine are pretty new, though.
I was curious about this, as I didn't buy my 2003 new and am not going outside with my tripple square set, so I did some research which I'm sure lots already know...
Probably a hundred posts on this. Anyway.
I had a picture of my options code sticker, which says J2C.
So I did some googling and found that there were supposedly a few options for 955 (9PA, E1) MY2003-2006.
This is just copied from the web... I'm not sure if it's true. But the H8 I have in my trunk (I think under my seat too) says 95 Amp hours so I should be good there at least.
I'll definitely look for an H9 when the time comes to replace the one under my seat.

My 2009 V6 came with smaller H8, and the positive battery cable was too short for larger H9 battery. So it varies from one cayenne to another.
Actually I installed the rear battery using OEM parts even when both batteries connected in parallel (H9 front, H8 rear) I didn't notice that much difference in cranking.
