CD changer
When I play CDs from the CD changer in my 2004 Cayenne S, lately they have started to skip A lot after a few songs. How likely is it that this is due to something else than the actual CD changer being defect? If it is the CD changer, I plan to buy a used one on eBay and replace it. But how difficult would it be to replace it? Should I do it myself? Do I need any special tools? Anything else I should know? Thanks!

Hi Doc,
Unfortunately - your CD play is dying if these are storebought disks. Homemade ones can be iffy.. You might try one of the CD cleaning disks (spins a brush against the lens on the diode laser). As far as a DIY - it's a royal pain to remove one of these. There are 4 screws on the left side of the damn thing that are inaccessible if the panel in the rear quarter is in place. Unfortunately - removing that panel involves disassembling a good part of the rear compartment. Porsche couldn't have made if more difficult if they tried. It's not "technically" challenging - it is physically challenging, lots of bending in uncomfortable positions in cramped spaces, reaching in and trying to find fasteners blind. It's not what I'd call a fun afternoon.
Good luck! Let us know how it works out.
