Thinking about buying a 2008 CTT-S
Hey everyone. First I want to thank everyone on this forum for posting a bunch of info. It has been really helpful.
I haven't had a Porsche for a number of years. Sold my 73 911T to buy our current house. I have had a 76 project, a 74 911S slick top building it into a race car and 2 914's. I haven't been able to drive a stick for a good long while so I thought a Cayenne would be a cool project.
I found a 2008 Cayenne Turbo S for $9250. 123k miles. He just had brakes, chassis sensors, oil change and valve covers done. Doesn't know about the coolant hose fix. It has these stated problems:
I did read a thread about sunshades getting stuck, but I am not sure if it the same thing. Looking for some advice on these 2 issues.
I haven't looked at the car yet. Maybe going tomorrow. What do you think of the price? I am a good home mechanic with a decent shop so I can do most of the work myself. Just looking for some opinions. Looks nice in pics.
Thanks!

- Engine light is on. P430 code. Right converter is bad or reading wrong.
- Sunshade is jammed in the sunroof mechanism
- Needs tires. Sitting on 18" but comes with 21" chromes. Probably garbage.

Cat replacement is several thousand dollars. Lots to fix there but all in all not terrible. Plan on $5000 in fixes and you'll be good for a bit. I have a set of the coolant pipes and needed accessories I'll sell you cheap. Not that bad a job, just time consuming. Change the starter while in there.
I can't remember if you have to pull the engine for primary cat, if you do, change all the hoses (replace tees with metal) and out in new motor mounts. You'll be good for a long time (unless HPFP dies).
Remember, you can stick $10,000 more in it and have way less than spent on a used Accord.

Thanks Jeff and Tony. I have been looking up the 2008 Turbo S. There are magazine announcements about it in early 2008. I will have to get the VIN and see what's what.
I was hoping it wasn't going to be crazy money but it looks like it. I will post what I find when I go look at it.

That doesn't look like a Turbo S to me. Turbo Ss were only offered in the 955 generation in 2006 and in the 957 generation in 2009 (maybe 2010, but definitely not in 2008) unless maybe in Europe where they sometimes get a certain version of the car a year earlier than the US.
All 957 Turbo Ss have:
957 Turbo S Exhaust Tips
Turbo S intake plenum
Turbo S Intake Plenum
Bi-plane Turbo S rear wing (exhaust tips have been changed)
PDCC icon on shifter trim (red circled area)
Plenum is aftermarket - engine trim is OEM Turbo S
All 957 Turbo Ss have:
- PDCC - written on the shifter trim in the lower right corner.
- Unique exhaust tips to that model that look like rocket engines.
- The GTS aero kit including the special bi-plane wing rear spoiler (this may have been a no-cost option rather than an only option)
- a volcano grey, larger intake plenum - not black
- Carbon fiber trim on the engine and a special carbon fiber intake plenum cover
- 380 mm diameter front rotors (vs 350mm on the lesser models) unless they have Carbon Ceramic brakes with yellow calipers (which your photo doesn't and is very rare on a 957)

Do be careful. Most of the CTTS listings here are fake with an S badge added. The picture of the car you are looking at seems familiar- I can't place it, but I suspect it was listed at sometime in the past as a Turbo S and I dismissed it as fake. If you have any questions, or need someone to take a look at a local car for or with you, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks everyone. I ran the VIN and it appears to be a standard Turbo. He isn't really selling it as a S just as a Turbo "Sport". I does have the S badge stuck on the back. Here is the VIN rundown:
Price: $109,750.00 Exterior: Basalt Black Metallic Interior: Black Full Leather Warranty Start: May 30, 2007
BASE Cayenne Turbo
0AW Porsche Dynamic Chassis Cntrl
0TD Front & Rear Flr Mats Int Clr
1D6 Trailer Hitch w/o Hitch Ball
3FU Panoramic Roof System
7A2 6 Disc CD Changer
CY2 21" Sport Wheel w/ Wheel Arch Extension in Exterior Color
N7D Soft Look Leather-Smooth Lthr NQ Black Full Leather
PH4 Dark Wood Package w/Lever
PO4 Light Comfort Package/Memory
QV4 Satellite Radio XM
Z4 Basalt Black Metallic
So, it does have the PCCD according to the VIN rundown. There happens to be a coffee cup in the way of the console shot so I can't see the PCCD logo.
Hey TomF, it is located in the Tacoma area. I am in Olympia so I am guessing you have seen it before.
So, now that you guys know more, what is it worth in your ever so humble opinions?
Thanks!
Mike

Take a video of the engine running at idle. Do for both engine banks for at least 30 seconds. Post when you can so we can take a listen for issues.
