OK, make it 4 recalls:
Make: PORSCHE
Model: CAYENNE S, TURBO
Year: 2003
Recall Number: 04V068000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, IF THE GROUND CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SPIRAL RING OF THE TANK FILLER NECK AND THE CONNECTING PIPE TO THE FUEL TANK IS INADEQUATE, THE FLOW OF FUEL DURING REFUELING CAN CREATE AN ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE, WHICH COULD DISCHARGE AND SPARK. THIS SPARK COULD IGNITE FUEL VAPORS IN THE AREA OUTSIDE THE TANK FILLER NECK THAT COULD LEAD TO A MUFFLED DETONATION.
Consequence:
DUE TO SUCH A STARTLING EVENT, THE INDIVIDUAL REFUELING THE VEHICLE COULD REMOVE THE FUEL NOZZLE AT PRECISELY THE MOMENT OF THE DETONATION WITHOUT FIRST STOPPING THE FUELING PROCESS. IN SUCH A CIRCUMSTANCE, FUEL ESCAPING OUTSIDE OF THE FUEL TANK MAY IGNITE, RESULTING IN A FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE GROUND CONNECTION AND, IF NECESSARY, CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT PORSCHE AT 1-800-545-8039.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Some more info...
Link to the CNN article announcing the recall:
http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/27/pf/a...reut/index.htm
Also some text...it seems the wiring problem is limited to production from October 2002 to July 2003.
"All 22,158 Cayennes produced between its launch in October 2002 and July 2003 will have to return to the workshop, including 11,355 sold in the United States where the chunky but sprightly off-roader has proved particularly popular."
"chunky but sprightly off roader"???!!?

Dear Julie,
No they do not use Lucas electrics. Most of the suppliers for the basic build of both the Cayenne and its brother come from Eastern Europe. The workers are Slovakian. The workers at the Leipzig plant are mainly East German. It is going to take a while for certain things to change.
Ciao,
Adrian

Yeah, but I'm always looking for a reason to rag on Lucas, lol, why I never went to an older Jag!

The inspection for the gearbox takes less than 10min.
They just write down the part # of the gearbox.
If you have a wrong case, the dealer will propose to replace the part.
For the harness :
It seems that the moving parts of the brake pedal are too close to the harness. The only thing that will be done is to move the harness away from the moving parts.

Thanks Gert for those tidbits. It seems that the North American dealer network is in a complete fog about these recalls. From what I can tell so far, there has been little, if any, communication from Porsche Cars North America to the dealer network about the extent of the problem or how to fix it! I guess being (physically) closer to the Mother Ship in Stuttgart has its advantages!

Toby, I am sorry to correct you. Gert is 371.9 miles away from Stuttgart while I am only 175.1 miles (according to www.map24.com, I did calculate the routes!).
Yet it doesn't help.
No even the Swiss importer, which is only 129 miles away from the holy ground (I did calculate that too) has a clue about the recalls.
BTW: OK, OK, I admit that it did help for hijacking the parts-truck with the cardan shafts.

Matt,
How could I have made such a foolish mistake! Of course I know that you are closer than Gert. However, doesn't ngfan LIVE in Stuttgart? I guess that would make HIM the prize-winner!
So! ngfan, how's about some elightenment?

Not that PCNA hasn't done their fair share of F****ups, but to be fair, they won't, can't, and shouldn't announce the recall until there is a certain volume of replacement parts and a complete step by step process for checks/repairs. By law, any carmaker has up to 60 days after a recall announcement to begin the recall process. They'll get it handled. (he says w/ fingers crossed....)
