The boot was relatively simple to unclip in my 993, when I did the shifter change on that years ago, just pushed down parallel to the opening...and out of the clips. Doesn’t seem like the boot slides down from the base of the shifter ball on the GTS...
more detail please.
thanks
Just **** as my boot is in awesome shape.
I just turned the very tip of the boot around which unlocks it from its position so it slides down exposing the metal shaft. Placed the vice-grips below the **** allow enough space for the wrench to pry the **** off. The whole install took 10 seconds.

Since my boot is in perfect condition the pn for leather should work.
Yes?

I see part #997-424-075-01-FOV...remember, this is beige leather.

Don’ t know if it’s still a good number, or availability.

I will confirm, and update.
Part # and availability confirmed thru my part dude...Sam at Delaware Porsche Parts, he is the man. In stock at Porsche warehouses.

I swore that I'd resist the mod bug and keep it stock, but man does that 997 **** look like it belongs on the car... Better aesthetics, feel AND a shortened throw?? Homerun... I'm very tempted to start looking for one... Anybody that has replaced theirs, where did you find it and did you have to get the boot with it??

if you don't mind, what are the dimensions of the metal plate and what kind of hardware did you use to attach it?

Had no luck finding a used beige ****, in good condition, so I decided to purchase a new OEM ****. For some reason beige is $50 more expensive, compared to most other colors.

I attempted to follow the suggestions in this thread without immediate success. After turning the neck of the boot multiple times, to where it felt like it should unlock, the boot would not drop down.

After wrapping the boot with a micro fiber towel I gripped the top of the boot with channel locks. After turning counterclockwise to the unlock position I tapped down lightly with a hammer. Voila the boot dropped down from the shifter and without damaging the boot.

I anticipated similar challenges removing the old **** so I decided to crush it with channel locks and pull it apart. Came off without a hitch.

After installing the new **** I discovered the original boot material is about twice the thickness of the new OEM boot, which made it difficult to pull up and mate with the new ****.

Its close enough but if it starts to pull away adhesive will be the next step.

Oh and the shifting feel is 100% improved.

I was not able to pull the **** up as others have.

Using channel locks I crushed the old **** and twisted it off the stalk.

Finally just grew a set and started squeezing and tearing stuff but yea I finally got the boot down, pulled the little plastic piece too far off, ripped the old one to shreds, didn’t realize it was finally off..and happened to bump
my hand into the **** and it just feel off 😂 not bad for 30 mins of anxiety, fear, and stress

So if the 997 Carrera shift **** works... that means the Alcantara 997 GT3 shift **** should work?
