I always see that 182/183 build number, it’s usually associated with MY 09. Has anyone ever discovered other build numbers for 08, &10? I remember reading that only somewhere near 500 were built worldwide.

Can’t be just 180ish for North America across three model years...can it?

Please see post #10 for info on how to remove the original shift ****.

The 997/987 shift **** is about an inch shorter than the 957 one. This helps shorten throws.

I've seen a number of 152 for 2008 in North America.

I don't think there were any manual GTS's for 2010. I think you could get the Transsyberia with a manual also and it had the 405 hp GTS engine.

Excellent suggestion: Just did this. Here are my tools and it came right off. WOW :-))




Was lucky enough to score almost new one on eBay.

Here is my installed 997 4S shift **** in my 2009 957 GTS.

Shame on PORSCHE, as, trust me, this is how our 6-Speed was suppose to come out of the factory.
I cannot believe how ad-shaped and plasticy the original shifter feelt in comparison. MUST HAVE MOD, GENS !!!

Quite a different shifting experience for sure.

The 997 **** is slightly shorter, the throws are definitely more precise. No more rubbery feel. It feels much lighter than before, that was my very first impression.

The overall feel of the 997 **** with leather/aluminum finish vs the 957 stock rubber/plastic design is night and day and most definitely 997 perfect circular ball vs the 957 OEM oval shape. Just really no comparison. I should have done the swap the day I got my GTS. Just make sure you get a nice one, if you ever consider a swap.

Big thanks to OP for letting us know about this mod!!

Just did a part search at my favorite Pcar place...a new beige leather shifter/boot, is only $262.

I see part #997-424-075-01-FOV...remember, this is beige leather.

Don’ t know if it’s still a good number, or availability.

I will confirm, and update.

I’m searching under 06 911 C4S, lots of manual transmission shifter options...aluminum, carbon, and plain leather in lots of color choices. I assume that the FOV at the end of the part number designates the color, but I am not sure.

I’ve sent an email to my parts guy to confirm. If a stock item, I’ll probably just buy one, and take the chance that the color match is close enough.

So...just the **** itself is being prayed off? You do, or don’t remove the boot first, then pry the whole assembly(boot & ****) off?

The boot was relatively simple to unclip in my 993, when I did the shifter change on that years ago, just pushed down parallel to the opening...and out of the clips. Doesn’t seem like the boot slides down from the base of the shifter ball on the GTS...
