Wow......I was surprised to see that this is quite a project.....just looked at it quickly so far......how many hours would you estimate this project would take by a capable guy ? Thanks for the info.

Jeffrey,

Nice job but I have a question. I was going to tap the (+) lead of the indicator to the (-) lead of the side marker. That way, the side marker will light solid when the headlights are on. It will then flash when the signal is on.

With your wiring, does the side marker illuminate solid with the headlights on?

I erred on the RH side by unscrewing the entire fender liner. WHAT A PITA to get it tucked back in! I learned.

I think not. If you don't lift the ML's ground wire, the turn indicator circuit will be shorted. If you do lift the ground, a circuit won't be completed for either lite. IOW, the ML voltage won't have a ground to complete it, and the turn circuit will be trying to energize the entire ML circuit thru the ML bulb.

"With your wiring, does the side marker illuminate solid with the headlights on?"

No. It's a single-filament, low-candlepower bulb. If you rewire it into the turn lite circuit, it's a turn lite.

That wiring is a little trick that car makers use to accomplish exactly what i stated. You should read the link that is provided in this thread. The circuit works and nothing will short.

Jeff,

Do you get any light bulb out warnings with your wiring?

I tried wiring it my way and Jeff's way today.

The results were not encouraging.

My way yielded proper function of the lights as I described but when using the turn signals with the headlights off, I got a light bulb out warning and the side marker lights are too dim on flashing.

With the headlights on, no problems.

With Jeff's method it works but the side marker light is too dim. And of course the side marker light no longer stays on solid with the headlights on. Unfortuately, i forgot to notice if any bulb warning came on.

So in my eyes, neither wiring yielded a satisfactory result.

Back to the drawing board.

Peter,

Given my lack of satisfaction regarding the methods I attempted, can you find out how they wired the turn signals. I'd really like to know.

With my method the side marker light doesn't work at all, but the side turn indicator does. As I said, it's not very bright in the daytime but is quite visible at night.

Generally, marker lights have bulbs that are just 2 - 4 candlepower; turn indicators are 32 candlepower so they can indeed be seen in the daytime.

Jeff,

I meant the light in the side marker is dim when the turn signal is on.

Default slightly off topic

but could not help noticing on JB pics that the CT wheel-arch liners have an air vent in them; the S does not. Where does this lead from? Is it additional brake cooling or is it hot air from the turbos intercoolers??

camcayenne, the large grill is indeed the backside air exit of the intercoolers. The rear of the 'cooler and its air-exit duct are quite visible in most of the pics here http://community.webshots.com/album/121843909KqREmx , especially 'Fourth'.
