Default Question about TPMS sensors.

Are the sensors in the wheels battery powered? I assume they are. I ask because I wonder how long they last. Does it matter if the wheels sit in storage?

I am running winter tires now and will have another set of wheels for the other seasons.

Will having a set of wheels sit for 3 seasons in storage have any effect on the longevity of the sensors?

The battery life is 5 to 10 years, with 7 years average, according to the Cayenne technical manual.

Batteries do not like higher ambient temperature environments. The battery life is extended by operation and storage in cooler environments.

The other factors to consider, on the tire sensors, are that the valve stem is not replaced, at each tire service. Instead, the internal valve body component is replaced.

The tire pressure monitor must be replaced if it becomes loose, leaks, is damaged or if tire sealant is used.

Be certain to tell a tire service technician that the tire pressure monitor is present, so that the tire iron does not whack the sensor.
