Some (maybe stupid) Nav questions
For those who use the nav a lot, are you keeping the nav CD "in." I thought maybe once you loaded it, the info would be in memory and you would be free to play music CDs. Sorry, my first nav system.
Is their a way to default the instrument display (between tach and speedo) so that on start-up it remembers what you last displayed, whether it be nav, tire pressure, compass, miles to empty, etc.?
TIA.

Elton,
The nav system only stores the current route in the memory. Whenever you enter a new route, the system needs the CD again. I leave the nav CD in the player all the time and use the CD changer for the music CDs.
As regards the instrument display, mine always returns to the last display at start-up (or maybe the miles to empty is the default because that's what I usually have displayed).

Hey Matt,
Guten tag. Thanks for the reply. OK, the Nav CD stays in. I ran out of money so I could not afford the CD changer!
In regards to the display, I may have a problem because it defaults to average mpg. I'll read the manual again.
Your Owner's Manual CD will be FedExed this week.
Ciao!

Elton,
My display does the same thing; the manual says that it will return to what you displayed when the car was previously turned off but it doesn't work that way. Mine goes back to Average MPG every time even though I leave mine on Miles to Empty when the car is shut off.

Mine was going back to "ave. speed", until I left it on "miles to empty". Then it reported "miles to empty." I will remember to check where it is today!
Our X-5 has the Nav w/ CD changer and we have left the CD in for 4 years now, w/ no problems except an occassional reset. My '03
Targa had the Nav, but no CD changer, and I would keep the Nav CD out until I needed it. It seemed to remember past stored destinations, tho.
It is amazing to me how "quirky" Porsches are. Seems that the P engineers get an idea in their heads as to how items should work, and do it, even tho. practical useage may call for a different set up. But then again, maybe the engineers are the truly practical ones, and we're learning how to be!

I read in the NAV version 3.0 manual and it states that once the Nav CD has loaded the needed info., the small CD symbol will disappear and then you can eject it and play your Music CD. If the NAV system needs the NAV CD again it will prompt you to insert it again.
BTW, I'm still trying to learn how to use it - also my 1st NAV sysytem.
Question, If it doesn't let you put in a specific address, should you just program it to the nearest intersection and wing it from there?
TIA!
