Default Passenger Seat Error Warning

Went mtn biking and put my hydropack, helmet and stuff on the passenger seat. Probably weighed 5lbs. Start driving and get a message about seat belt, so I plug it in. Still get a warning.

When finished, I put my ancillary stuff in back rather on the seat and fired up the car and got passenger seat warning. Switched seats and buckled up and still got it. Hmmmm

That night Mrs RSbob and I were to head to see our kids and grandson so I had her sit in the Cayenne and no error.

So what gives with the seat sensor and putting 5 lb items in the passenger seat? Is this common? Is the seat only for human butts? Inquiring minds want to nose.

Yep, it's annoying.

In my 2009 CTTS, one laptop is fine, with two, the warning is triggered. AGHHH! I have just learned to put my briefcase and gear in the backseat.
Further, sometimes the "airbag off" light will remain lit after everything has been removed from the seat and someone is actually sitting in it. Apparently, the sensor wires can get pinched under the seat. I have found that if you adjust the seat, it sometimes helps...

Cheers,
Tom

I have a similar issue as of yesterday. The “passenger airbag off” light is always on regardless of having a passenger or not. And the airbag fault light has now come on in the instrument cluster. Ugh!

the only way I got the warning to stop was take Mrs RSbob for a 20 min drive, but insisted that she actually sit up front next to me rather than her preferred metaphorical method of ‘helping’ me drive.

Hopefully You may just need to drive farther or further or longer or something. Don’t know if it can be turned off by a durametric or something similar.

I'm not sure how similar the 955 & 957 are in this area.
I have a 955, so my experience may not equate.

With that disclaimer...

The air bag warning light won't go off by itself. It has to be reset.
I had the typical "light activated going fast around a corner" that seems to be a wiring plug issue.

It stayed on for weeks. I had to use a Durametric to reset it.

It's one reason I got the Durametric. It worked well and the light has not come back on since, it's been a couple years.
