Default Boot (trunk) stuck - any ideas?

The Lower part of my boot/trunk/tailgate is stuck closed. I can hear the actuator attempt to move/release the lock mechanism when I press the handle. I’ve removed the plastic cover inside and can feel the cable attempt to move the metal lever. I tried to move the lever myself using a metal screwdriver and attempting to push it in the same direction as the actualltor moves the cable (from right to left looking at it from the inside lying on the carpet). No joy.
It seems jammed.
Any ideas?
The top part (glass) works fine. Manual operation (no motors on struts). 04 CTT.
Thanks.

Maybe the actuator is broken or jammed inside? Can`t you disconnect that cable and move the lever once free?

Thanks. Ive released the cable (actually a metal bar) and the actuator moves normally when you press the handle from outside. It seems the actual lock itself is jammed. I can’t move that lever at all.
Its very annoying!

I don't have the manual in front of me but check fuses 30 and 31 in the right-side dashboard fusebox.

Thanks. Fuses fine and it’s the manual release that is stuck so the battery doesn’t seem to be an issue.
