For the transmitter I just used the two wires to the light bulb it replaces for power, so I didn't ground it to the frame or anything.
Am I understanding correctly that even though the camera has constant power, it doesn't stay on all the time because it receives an on/off command from the head unit?

I believe that is how the ones with a trigger line work, but the one I bought just has power so it is always on if the power is on. I thought it would be simpler, and so if the key is in and the CANBUS is on, so is the receiver up in the dash. The camera and transmitter are run off the rear light circuit, so whenever they are on, so is your transmitter/camera. They use less power than the bulb they replace so I can't see a problem. So in my case the camera is always running when driving, but the HU doesn't pay attention to the video feed unless you are in reverse so it doesn't really matter, unless you are thinking about wear and tear on the camera and transmitter. Since they only cost a few dollars I don't really care, plus if you want to have the camera only actually on when in reverse you would have to run a trigger wire to the back hatch, which was what I was avoiding in the first place by getting a wireless one. So all personal preference I guess.

Or route a wire over to the reverse lights. I don't know how hard this would be...

So at night, the camera LED's are on all the time? Those are pretty bright, no?

A wire from the reverse lights would be possible I suppose. But I guess I am complaining too much; running wires from the dash to the back isn't that big a deal, going along the passenger side carpet. As far as the brightness, the camera unit has an LED that replaces the license plate light you take out to install it, so it should be on all the time and the brightness is about the same. What doesn't look normal is the color temperature - the LED being a lot bluer than the incandescent bulb on the other side. Again easy to deal with, just replace the other bulb with an LED as well. I haven't bothered though. Guess mine looks kinda odd. I'll take a picture when I get a chance.

Hi, was just curious are you running daytime running lights or something which keeps your lights always on? Ah, bet you are since you are in Canada. That explains it. So you are pulling power from the lamp for the camera, since they are always on,

I've been trying to figure out how you were using the wireless camera during the day.. But if my assumption is correct, I now understand.

Thanks for all of the great information in this thread!

Yes, I think any vehicle newer than 1989 has to have them in Canada. Which is good because I am not sure how I would do that on my 1986 944 with pop up headlights!

I said I would post a picture of the color difference between the stock license bulb and the LED from the camera; lousy shot of the filthy back but this shows the point.

When it is almost -30 C out, it is hard to get from the car wash to home without every door freezing shut!

Asking for help here with anyone with this Hiriot head unit.

In trying to fix my audio cutting out after 20min problem. I flashed an updated software and firmware to my Hiriot 9" Android.
Now my Radio and my CanBus do NOT work...!!!

The problem is that my Hiriot unit is a PK5, like many others, but there are different manufacturers.
The Hiriot I bought on Aliexpress was a MTCE-XRC_V2.89.1.

Someone on this thread posted an update for an MTCE_CHS_V2.93_2 to MTCE_CHS_V3.01

XRC and CHS are different Chinese manufacturers...

Seems like everything else works, and so far all my drives have been fine without audio cutting out. WiFi and Bluetooth seem good too.

Could someone please follow the instructions on this video to take a photo of their canbus settings and send them to me?

Default Canbus

On mine Canbus is 29 Porsche (Bagoo)

Rudder is left rudder. Everything else is normal.

Did the update you ran change the MCU that was loaded? Does info now show it as a CHS unit?

You might check into XRC MCU versions on xda if the MCU was changed. Some are cross compatible and some are not.

Thanks!

I did try 29 Porsche (Bagoo) but my steering wheel clicks won't show up in either of the MTCD TOOLs or the other steering wheel app that was already installed. No steering wheel buttons are functioning now.
The update did change the line to say MTCE_CHS_V3.0.1 but then there was a red erro at the bottom of the screen saying "version unmatched" so I ran the fix for that and the warning went away.

I also switched the radio to USA1 and USA2 (instead of china) and I still have almost no reception! Prior to the update, reception was good.

I found a few different updates for the XRC MCU on a Russian site https://yadi.sk/d/umCvHqCDzHccr. I will probably try those. The Chinese vendor on Aliexpress did try to send me a link for the XRC software, but their link file had been deleted, so I found it on the Russian site by googling the file name.

I may also try the Hal9k ROM... https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...units-t3847477

ok, I got the steering wheel keys working with 29 Porsche (Bagoo).

I had to go into the Android settings for the wheel keys and just press all the wheel keys... Then it worked also in MTCD_TOOLS.

That Russian site does seem to have the all the versions of the XRC firmware. I got the newer versions but never installed them because 2.84_1 is working fine for me. I think it is the one from 20180510 that they have, so that might be worth a try. Does your audio still cut out?

I've been looking/searching these via AliExpress over the last couple months. Watching the HIRIOT units from Hiriot Store, SEICANE from Seicane HD Radio Store. I am targeting PX5 Octo Core Units with 8.1 and as much ROM as they offer (usually 32Gb).

Now seeing the comments about flashing updates, versions, primary manufacturer vs. reseller and support needed from these vendors. I am wondering what those who have purchased would recommend ? Any warnings or cautions?

Thanks,
MK

The Aliexpress vendor that I bought my Hiriot from, did reply again last night with a working link to the XRC_PK5_8.0(20180706)升级包 update, which is different than the ones from the Russian sites. But it is the same as what I had originally.
The Russian site had 20181113 and 20180319(though the ZIP is labeled 20180510).

Currently it seems to be working well, except for the radio. I've only driven the car twice so far, and the audio has not cut out yet. I do have the flicker in the dash and the click of the relay in the dash, when the car is off though. Seems louder than before.

So when I chose the Hiriot (XRC) unit it seemed to have the least problems reported (looking at the same unit fit for other cars). I think only Vulcan and I have bought the Cayenne version and I had no problems but he has had a few. I'm starting to agree with the radio reception being not so good. But other than that mine has been in use for probably a few hundred hours and works fine. Only time it crashes is because of the old version of Waze I use (without that idiotic button right over your car's location).

I actually like it a lot, other than the audio cutting out after 20 min or if I have the seat heaters on... The new firmware seems better so far. The vendor has been very responsive and helpful! Much better than the support for my old Pioneer Appradio2 I put in my Acura. The Pioneer support sucked, and they were always breaking compatibility with my phone with every update.

I would buy the Hiriot again!
So much better than the PCM2 with Navtv iPod adapter.
Fishing the firmware update was a piece of cake! Much easier than my android phone!
