But joking aside, cars here - certainly in the south - are more at risk of paint damage than water damage!

You think it might be risky selling to people who have no credit - but the Buy-Here, Pay-Here guys have an anchor on the car. They install a module that links into the OBD-II system, and has a GPS as part of it - and a radio-controlled switch. If the buyer is late with payments, the next time they park the car - and they return planning on going somewhere - the car won't start. The switch has been thrown. The GPS unit then sends a tracking signal to a service the dealer subscribes to - and the dealer sends out a repo-truck who hauls the car away back to the dealer.

Apparently, the deal is profitable enough for the dealers that they just abandon the hardware on the vehicle if the vehicle is finally paid off.. but I suspect they simply recycle the vehicles more often, selling them to another poor soul who can't really afford what they're buying.

Wonder if this was something like that..
Highly unlikely considering the guy I bought it from, he certainly wasn't short of a bob or two (except for the divorce he was going through of course). More likely to be to track it if stolen I would image.

60 hours since the last time I started the engine - battery measured 12.15v

Turned the key, started fine.

I think I can safely say this is now SOLVED!

Going to get the load test done and maybe get a new battery if needed but at least the drain has gone! \o/

That's awesome. Congratulations. Get a new battery anyway. I had just put a new battery in my Cayenne before I started the widebody build and even though I gave the body shop a battery tender to keep it plugged up, they didn't, and let the battery get badly discharged a few tines. Once I got the car back, I put it on my smart Optima AGM battery charger and although the voltage when finished would measure high, and the load test at the store said it was fine, the battery charger gauge would never go past 75% and it would never fully drop the charging amperage at the end of the charge cycle. I convinced them to give me a new one under warranty and immediately it charged up like it was supposed to. My point is just because it passes a load test doesn't mean the battery isn't partially damaged and after so many discharge cycles, why risk a battery issue while you're now trying to enjoy the car again?

Good point!

Just spent 5 hours putting everything back together (well, there's a few bits left over... I'll deal with them again ) - and cleaning it all inside so it would be nice to enjoy it a bit without worry for a while! Or, at least, until the next issue pops up!

I think this thread can be (not literally) closed but just a final update.

I got the genuine MOSFETs in the post today, so took the module out and replaced the ones I'd put in temporarily.

Thankfully the car did start again (slight scare when it didn't - but I hadn't put the connector on properly... )

I had the battery load tested afterwards and it's fine. I think he said it didn't go below 11.6 or 11.8? So that's good news.

Only issue now is I have a problem with the kessy module unlocking itself from the passenger side (RHD car) if I just stand next to it, but I've put that in a separate thread here - https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...l#post15286714

Thanks again everyone for your help. So great to be able to know the car will start in the morning!

Default spare tire?

I have a 2006 955 Turbo S. I have on 3 occasions had a serious tear in the sidewall far into off road area. On each occasion I had to drive out very slowly on the rim and then get towed from the road. Is there anyway to fit a full sized tire where the sub is now? Otherwise, whenever I go off roading, I will just load a full sized spare in the rear cargo area. Thanks!

There's only room for this optional collapsible spare. I bought one for cheap on eBay back before I had any extra wheels.
I leave it in my house and enjoy my subwoofer and secondary battery where it would have gone.

I was told that this spare will not work on the Turbo S due to the size of the brakes....
Confirm?

I think the the spare is only for the rear tires so you must change two tires of a front tire has an issue.

i might but wrong

Lookin' good.

Coincidentally, I had my first ever (in my Cayenne) flat driving home this past Saturday night. Damaged the sidewall on a protruding curb... (hard to explain).
Grateful I was able to make it home keeping things below around 18 MPH.
Run-flat tires are looking more attractive lately... But nothing like a full size spare.

What tires are those? I've been shopping for winter tires and saw some that look like yours but I've never had tires that didn't have a few rain grooves and I think I'd be nervous around turns in heavy rain.

They are BFG All-Terrain TAs. Factory size
