I have trial fitted a magnetic / wireless charging iphone mount to one of my center air vents and am pretty happy with it.

The pad is powered by mini usb going to a USB connector and then in turn into a USB port currently plugged into my drivers cigarette lighter.
The problem with the setup, is that the cable sticks out and I cannot close my ash tray without unplugging the cable - plus the cable is in the way and not a neat job.

I have managed to pull out the center air vent easily and can drop the USB cable behind there.
I will be pulling out the PCM 3.0 this week to fit my universal audio interface and so will be able to access the ash tray and remove that also.

My question is then about - where would I tap into to get a constant 12v which is the same power and amps as the cigarette lighter?

 

i plugged into outlets in passenger footwell with adaptor and ran cable behind radio into unused switch cover

 

 

was going to replace my head unit(bose) but thought i would try this first
glad i did works really well, sound is terrific, connects to bluetooth every time
