Refer to made year?

Doesn't that point to a 1982 928? Not 2012.
BTW, in general, the 10th digit in the VIN indicates the year.
So in this case, "C" = 1982
my 1985 911 has an "F" there. (3 years after 1982, so D, E, F.)
my 2004 Cayenne has a "4" there (2000 = 0, etc.). It also has a "9" in the 7th digit, which means it is prior to MY2009. After that, 2010="A" in the 7th digit, etc., so a 2012 Cayenne would have a "C" in the 7th digit. I think since this has a "9" in the 7th digit, it means it is prior to MY2009, which means the "C" in the 10th digit maps to 1982, rather than 2012.
BTW, here are my notes for the decoding of each digit in the VIN for my 2004 Cayenne S, which may be more meaningful on this list than info for an old 911 or a 928:
W W - Germany (until 1989 West Germany)
P P - Porsche
1 0 - sports car or Panamera, 1 - Cayenne
A Body type: A - 911 Coupé, 924, 928 from MY1991, 944 Coupé, 968 Coupé, Cayman, Cayenne, Panamera
B Engine: B - 911 3.2, 911 G-model Turbo, 928 MY1983-90, 944 2.5 N/A MY1987-88, 944 S2, 964 Carrera/RS America/America Roadster/Speedster, 996 Turbo/GT2, 997 Carrera S/4S/GTS/Sport Classic/Speedster, Boxster 986/987 S, Cayman S/R, Cayenne S, Panamera S/4S
2 Airbags: 2 - front airbags only
9 9 - up to MY2009, then 2010=A … 2016 = G, etc.
P Model Number - PA for Cayenne 955 - digit 8 is P, digit 12 is A
5 Checksum
