2nd Try
Will be taking delivery of second TT in less than two weeks
Options:
Smooth Leather
19" Wheels
Wheel Hub Colored Crest
Roll-up sunscreen rear windows
Entry & Drive
Fire Extinguisher
6 disc changer
PCM w/ compass
Pre Heater w/ timer
Only thing I wasn't able to get was hitch w/o ball, which I can add later, so far no real reason for one now. Any reason to have it added now instead of later?

Nice to know PCNA stepped up to the plate with a little arm twisting.
If it were VW, you would still have the car. I hope they certify the truck to the next buyer...
Good news & good luck...

dawktah,
Before making a final decision on the tow hitch, check out the price of a factory-installed option versus after-the-fact. The labor is a killer on later installs, where taking it as a factory option is cheaper.
I had a hitch installed last week and am very happy with it. I was NOT thrilled with the installation cost and wished (like other options) that I had ordered it rather than taking delivery of a car from inventory because it kinda matched what I wanted. Nothing like 20-20 hindsight!

It would be interesting to see how close the Pepper hitch is to the Touareg one. If it is close enough, the install is not too hard. I bought an aftermarket hitch, ball, electrical wiring kit for about $200 total and install took me about 1.5 hours. Here is a photo essay:

I am planning on doinf exaclty that in the spring, I did the research and it is not a hard job. The unit is from CURT, less than $200 (no brakes) 6000lb. PLUS whatever the dealer will charge to program it in.

negotiate to have it fitted after delivery, go for the option price.

eclou and mudman2,
I have yet to determine what the control unit included in the factory kit does. Just be aware that the factory kit includes the physical hitch, carrier/ball AND a control unit that plugs into the CAN-bus on the vehicle. It is specifically designated as a "Towing System" control unit in the factory documentation. The Service manager at Park Place is in training this week, so hopefully I can get some detailed answers upon his return.

Most of the Touareg owners have found that even the factory unit throws a fault when braking and turning the right indicator light on. Has something to do with the difference between euro and US wiring for trailers. So, many of the Touareg owners who have used the aftermarket hitches have merely used a Hoppy universal wiring kit to splice into the rear lights with NO ERROR messages.
The only difference is the factory hitch kit will tell you A) if there is a bulb out on the trailer B) if the hitch plug is disconnected the alarm goes off.

You really should consider a TT that has the elecrtic comfort (PF4) option. The self closing mech. on the rear hatch and other comfort feartures (garage homelink, lighted ext mirrors on exit and entry etc. id worth the $900
