Wow! Prices are tough across the pond. If my math is right 40K pounds is almost $70K, and that's for a V6. Us humble colonials can buy an S for $60K or less without much bother or waiting months. The steering wheel may be on the "right" side but the price point surely isn't. Any idea why such cost discrepancies exist?

We are just stiched up in the UK as the government do not really want us to own cars!!!

James I am also looking to go for a 3.2 but was not sure the dealers had all the detail for the UK sorted yet for options etc.

Main options i was thinking were, titronic , tow bar kit, 18" wheels, park assist (my wife will use this car during the day),In dash compass (again so that i can argue with the wife on which way i am going).I am going to go for the metalic black with a black leather interior.

What else did you see as essential.

It’s a damn good question. Forgive me if I’m telling you what you already know, (and forgive me if I’m not entirely correct) but here in the UK you cannot buy a NEW Cayenne from stock. They are only ordered from recognised Porsche dealers - Official Porsche Centres - OPCs. Each OPC is allocated a certain number per year. For the V6 my OPC said he was due to get 12 in 2004 and mine will be one of the first, being a March/April build for May delivery.
All are ordered to exact specification. Used examples are just starting to appear back at OPCs and seem to be selling at ‘list’. I don’t think you would have much change from £50,000 for a used S with a few goodies on. A few have also appeared in specialised high performance outlets, bought perhaps as a quick money-earner and which are now classed as ‘pre-owned’ or ‘used’. They would probably be on sale at a couple of £grand over list. There are none advertised nationally by OPCs.
My order form shows the start price for the V6 at £29234.04, plus my chosen options to get to a total price of £34343.04, then there is our dreaded VAT @17.5% = £6010.03 + £25 registration fee (another tax) + £160 for road fund licence (annual tax) = total £40538.07. The options I picked were the ones I felt I would miss from the RR.
Base prices, including VAT, for the V6 are c. £34500; S £44500; TT £68500. The word discount may apply on a TT but all I got was mud flaps, mats & full fuel for free.
In answer to another question, the RR feels roomier inside, mostly I think because it’s a bit taller. Because of this it is however it is much ‘gaupier’ compared to Cayenne, both of which I have driven - the TT being awesome ... but at seventy grand is way out of my league.
In answer to 69COU, the dealers do have full specifications in a large ringbinder. The biggest essential IMO is air, followed by cruise, autochanger, and, because of the havanna - the dark wood. Aluminium inserts on the doors & dash just look naff. If you want to discuss ‘off-air’, e-mail me on jks_advertising@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks for the breakdown. Very interesting. More than $10K in taxes alone: Holy cow! Time to change United "Kingdom" to United "People's Republic," perhaps? And they probably whack you hard on income taxes on top. Even without the outrageous VAT tax clip, I still make the base V6 price almost $51K there vs $43K here. Wonder why?

Also appreciate the "OPC" explanation: that, too, seems pretty wild from this end--most dealers around here probably sell more than 12 a month and many have 15+ vehicles on the lot at any point. There is something to be said for custom order to spec, but this works hugely to the UK dealer's advantage financially because he'll never have inventory pressure to unload in-stock vehicles at a "deal" for the buyer. The point is borne out by your info regarding resale valuations: if I'm following correctly, used vehicles are selling for the same price as new ones. Yikes!

Thanks for the info. Appears we Americans are fat, happy and spoiled in more ways than we think. Cay, what happens in Germany on pricing?

seems we`re between:

V6 = 47.592,00 EUR incl. 16% VAT
S= 60.352,- EUR incl. 16% VAT
TT = 100.024,- EUR incl. 16% VAT

don`t forget that the S for eg the tiptronic comes as a 2.575 EUR extra
and privacy glass as a 350 or so EUR Extra. We get 2 years warranty, common rabate on the Cayenne is betwen 5% - 6% and free maintenance
for the first years like you have we dont know here and pay for it from day 1.

So a good equiped V6 comes to 60-65K Euros, a S to 80-85K and a TT 110K. A V8 Touareg with simular options costs aproxm 7K less than a S - so we don`t need to bother too much to buy a VW or a Pursch.

There are countries like Denmark and other scandinavian States with 100 % luxury tax so cars like a Mercedes C-Class are unpayable there for normal guys.

So it looks we have to sponsor the sales to the US :-) If the specs wouldn`t be such different it would be a good deal to reimport a Pursch from the states, isn`t this weird?
