boxster S or 993
I want to get a 97 / 98 993 coupe or a new boxster S with glass rear window. Anybody have some insight ? I love both and think both designs are classic. Hate to get one and regret it later, thinking..should have got the other. Help anyone ?

993 for sure! The boxster is a miata which most people lease. IMO boxster=poser! LOL Although a boxster will outhandle a 993, but still go for the 993! I never look twice at a boxster, but always look twice at a 993
Just my 0.02 cents!

Boxster S. Period.
A glass rear window means a 2002 Boxster S, which has warranty up to 2006 or 50,000 miles.
A 993 is not as reliable as the Boxster S and is not under warranty.
Go for the 2003 Boxster S which is faster than a stock 993 everywhere.

Cloud964
I have an 03 "S" & a 993 TT - ***CLICK***
I gather you drive a 964 ......If that is the case, the decision should quite easy !
What are you looking for in the new car ?
If you want:
- arguably the best looking 911
- classic 911 looks and the attention they receive from the public
- the noise
- the smell
- the quirky driving position
- the handling that constantly challenges you to drive it better
BUY THE 993 !
If you want:
- an incredibly practical 2 seater
- a car that WON'T give you the same level of public attention as a 911
- the convience of a smooth, modern car
- a car that is an entire generation newer [ better] to drive
- a car that has the most perfectly balanced chassis
- a car that is effortless to drive incredibly quickly
BUY THE BOXSTER S
Personally I would be hard pressed to choose between them.
I prefer the Boxster as a daily driver [ smooth and effortless ]
and the 993 as the weekend car [ ego and excitement ]
Does all that makes sense
cheers

Q, your cars picture REALLY makes my heart beat. And I can see that "finaly" you took out that 4 pipe rear exhaust and the humps too great ideia Your cars look wonderful together as they are.
What a perfect combo you have there. I´ve a Boxster, an I´ve been testing some 993TT lately, and the thing that is really surprising me on the 993TT is the smoothness ride it provides. I really was bummed by the softness of the clutch pedal, the smoothnes of the gearbox and overall soft feeling this car gave me, it´s even quiter It´s almost easier to drive around town than the Boxster with it´s wierd and harder clutch pedal.

Q, to buy the 993TT now, I would have to sell the Boxster, which is a car that I´ve had spend a fortune for the last six years on upgrades. I really love this car and I´m sure I would miss it badly if I had to sell it. In March next year, I´ll be able keep the Boxster and buy the 993TT(my combo dream) , the problem is that is getting more and more difficult not to but immediatly. Yesterday I reveived and unbelieveble proposal for a black/black 98 993TT with 90000Km 1 owner all service made by Porsche dealer, and the last service was done in September. New tires and full extras for 53000 euros, and buyer told me that we could lower it a bit more, most important, it has a official 6 months Porsche warranty world wide. I couldn´t even sleep well tonight thinking on this car. I believe it´s a very good price for a 3/98 warranted car, and I´m afraid that on March 2004 I wont find any deal like this. So I really don´t know what to do and seeing your pictures really puts me some bad thoughts in my head like going to the bank and make a crazy loan ato buy the 993TT right now
We´ll see how it ends up, but it´s much smarter to waite for March and keep the Boxster.
