Default Lock mechanism - central locking light

So I just installed a new lock mechanism on a 986 2,5 -99 on the drivers side. (Audi part)

Directly when I plug in the new one the central locking light starts to light up. So what do I do? Furthermore locking and unlocking gives the honk of somehting with the system being way wrong.

My first thought is the Audi part is not compatible with the Porsche part.

The 2nd is there is another problem. Why did you change the lock mechanism in the 1st place?

It is the exact same part and part number. They use the same mechanism in the TT (I've heard there are several other parts that the two cars share).

The inital problem was that the drivers side window didn't ascend when pulling outside door handle. A broken switch/pin within the mechanism. Apparently a quite common problem for 986 owners.

While the lock mechanism can be the cause of the behavior it is not the only thing that can account for the behavior.

When my 02 Boxster's passenger window failed to drop when I opened the door, or worse, would drop when I opened the door but once the door was open would then raise on its own, and when the door locks activated on their own, and when the car's alarm horn would sound like something was ajar, the cause proved to be the door latch assembly, a rather large and I'm told a rather sophisticated collection of hardware and electronics.

The tech connected the Porsche diagnostic computer to the car to query the security module for errors in hopes the problem was with the door lock as this is a less expensive part to replace but the door latch assembly was the culprit.

The window dip switch for the outside door handle is built into the latch assembly, I replaced one on a 986 for that exact reason (no window dip). But there's obviously either an issue with the replacement part or car, it should be plug and play. Was any of the wiring damaged upon reassembly? I had lock issues on a 996 door that turned out to be a pinched wire from someone else's window regulator replacement.

Thanks for all the replys.

Having been fiddling about with the assembly and trying to install it again I think I have to accept the fact that the part is faulty or atleast specified for a newer car. This since the electronics clearly doesn't match.

But, NOW THE DOOR WON'T OPEN! Just my luck getting a mechanical error as well. It is installed properly, pulling on EITHER side window drops but no clicking sound from the mechanism.

Starting to get desperate, do you guys have an idea on how to open the door?

Did the handle linkage come loose from the latch mechanism?

Since it doesnt work from either side I wouldn't think so.

Well, my only idea is you'll have to remove the inner door panel from inside the car and then manually work the door latch to open the door.

It's been a while since I replaced one, but I seem to recall that both the inner and outer handle combine to a single linkage that hooks into the latch. So if that linkage comes loose, both the inner and outer latches would not work. I agree with Macster, pull the door panel and see what's going on.
