Default Performance Intake Options for '00 BoxS

Hi All!

Just wondering what aftermarket/performance intake options there are for a 2000 BoxS? I've read up on both of EVO's offerings, but I do like choice, so any body know of any other ones?

First hand experience would be greatly appreciated -- either pro or cons!

Thanks in advance!

PS -- feel free to e-mail me with any and all info you guys might have. Thanks again

Hi 604BoxS

I'm also from Vancouver. Recently I did some looking around and posted my findings on Flat-6 forum, you might want to take a look there.

Please add into that the cost of a 2nd engine. As much as I love TPC supercharged boxsters, almost everyone I know who has had one installed has blown either the supercharger or the engine in about 25,000 miles. I'm sure you'd be out of warranty so factor in those costs if you are planning to keep the car awhile, if not, sell it and let the next owner worry about it.

I also heard the TPC superchargers do not work well with the 3.2L engine.

damn there goes that. Thanks for the heads up. Although TPC did mention only 4.5 psi of boost to keep engine life long..

Hey KJ,a little off topic here. How do you like the Boxster S since you had it for awhile now? Also, whats the performance mod potential for the e46 M3?

I like it a lot. I love the styling, the color, the Porsche name, the exhaust and handling. I just need to readjust my shifter since i have it a little loose. Actually since I bought it used it doesn't feel as tight or new like my M3. But hey I got it at a good deal so it's cool. Plus I won't feel bad if I ever mod it.. I feel better modding a more used car than new. 34k miles on it now.

Compared to my M3, it doesn't feel as strong acceleration, and of course I lose out to the SMG shifting. But I do love the convertible thing.

As for the M3 mods, there are a few options. The best and most reliable one is NOWACK based on user responses. Leaving it naturally aspirated, the engine mods brings it up to 400hp. But very pricey and you have to ship your car to their shop in Germany. There's a couple of Superchargers out but most agree it's risky. RMS has stage I for 430hp at around $7k I think.. and stage II at 530hp for almost $20k. I don't know of anyone with the stage II, but there is at least 3 that reported who have stage I. Supposedly he was able to outrace an SL55 AMG...

But overall though, the car is not easy to reliably mod.

But most M3 owners don't do mods except for chip, exhaust and intake. It's not like the Boxster S where it's kinda detuned.. M3 setup is already pretty efficient. So most of the aftermarket so-called tuners actually degrade performance. So most owners just do aesthetic mods, driver education, and plenty of track time.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me or post at the m3 forums, or my board (link below).

Besides EVO I also heard that there are other performance intake manufacturers. Has anyone had experience with other performance intake besides EVO?

Theres TTP,FVD and Scargo. Scargo is the prettiest looking one. Its made of carbon fiber. They all give you the same performance as EVO,but MUCH more expensive. Close to a $grand$,i think. Thats a lot of money for a intake,IMO.
