Default Height of Boxster 986

My "new" boxster seems to be low, only six inches from the ground. Is this the normal height or the previous owner had lowered it? Am not too happy with current height, would like it higher though.

That's about right. These cars are rather low stock. If the car is lowered bringing it back to its stock ride height is doable. If the car is at its stock height raising it further is something rarely done, reserved for maybe competition rally/off road Boxsters.

Mine is right at 7" with original max height standard suspension springs. So you must have aftermarket lowering springs. My springs have 112,000 miles & Macster's have over twice that many so don't hesitate to get used stock springs as long as they are not badly rusted.

Yes, you are fairly “low”.
Mine has Bilstein PSS9 and was set in a relatively “low” level, (not as a low as possible, in order to be drivable on “street”), is at :

To have view of the car, it looks like that :

Went outside with a tape measure. Getting down low to get a straight on view the jacking pad of my 2002 Boxster (with now just over 285K miles on the original springs) is as near as I can tell is 5.5" above the ground. The body is about 6.5" inches above the ground. AFAIK, the suspension is stock. No ROW or anything like that.

The unladen ground clearance is significantly taller; these cars have somewhere in the low 100lbs/in springs, and without a passenger or cargo, usually sit much taller than 4.1".

Default Red Springs

The car is really low. I have to watchout for portholes....real headache. I believe these are aftermarket spring. What do i have to change to get the car back to original height, spring alone or together with the absorbers..thank you all. Am also wondering wether these are the correct wheels for this model. I have seen in in Porsche SUVs but not on boxster. The ride is harsh and uneven. Happy holidays.

I think those are OE Porsche car wheels. Be sure the tires are recommended size or slightly taller. 225/40/18 & 265/35/18

OE Porsche springs are black so yes installing OE Porsche springs will raise height. Eibach springs are usually red so you MAY have Eibach, a quality brand that someone may want to trade with you. Be sure to replace the boot dust covers when you have the springs changed. Looks like they have been hitting the bottom & knocked loose.

Thank you for your toughts. Will definitely change to original springs. Do the absorbers look original? Am worried the springs may only go with these absorbers. Hv had evo7 and skyline before but this car's ride is very brute like.

It looks like you are also missing the rubber bump stops that should be at the top of the shocks. In photo no. 4 you can see the remains of one of them. With time they tend to deteriorate or dry rot and then break apart. If the suspension is bottoming out then it would add to the harshness.
