IMO plastic to glass top and accompanying special frame are more than "cosmetic" changes for 03, you don't have to exit the car and manually fold the plastic window to encourage longevity.

There are significant changes in the '03s. Most importantly, the engine changed from a five chain to three change architechture, improving the cam chain design. It also included the Motronic ME7.8 engine management with Variocam which brought with it the bump in torque and hp. The top got an extra bow with a slightly changed (sleeker) profile and a glass rear window. The radio now has a MOST bus to the amplifier and CD changer. The interior got the glove compartment (nice to have) and more useful cupholder (for those who care about such things) and a revised center vent/switch panel. The reshaped front bumpers and side vents went to flexible horizontal "grills". The rear spoiler was enlarged and the rear bumper reshaped with horizontal cutouts that show more of the exhaust.
