Default IMS preventive repairs

Where in the midwest can the IMS bearing be replaced? I had heard someone (possibly in Chicago) had a replacement part which would eliminate or reduce the failure concerns.

I don't own a boxster but know of a friend in need of getting his replaced sometime soon. I believe his car is a 2001. Which would be out of the Porsche 10 year IMS new court ruling.

thanks for the help.

FlatSix Innovations offers a replacement IMS bearing.

Here's a link:

There is another business offering a different kind of IMS bearing "fix" or solution that involves fitting a direct oil feed adapter to the engine to feed filtered oil to an open (no seals) bearing.

Here's I think a link to the company and its product.

Do a google search of Porsche repair shops in your vicinity. Go to the shop web site and see if Porsche IMS bearing retrofits is mentioned.

Or post say 3 or 4 of the shop names here and ask if anyone can offer a recommendation based on experience.

Any competent shop that's familiar with Porsches can do it. Once the transmission and clutch/flywheel is out, you must:

1. know how to lock the cams in place
2. know how to use a screwdriver
3. know how to use a bearing puller

I personally would look seriously at the DOF Direct Oil Feed (pedrosgarage.com). About $1000 worth of parts including a new OEM modified bearing, plus a few hours labor.

No, The IMS Solution is a co-development of Flat 6 Innovations and LN Engineering. It is offered by IMS Solution LLC at www.theimssolution.com
None of the above are associated with Tune RS.
