Default In search for a 6 speeds manual Boxster S 2001 or 2002

I'm looking (for me !) for a 2001 or 2002 Boxster S manual (6 speeds)
About 3 months ago, I sold my last 911, a 2002 996 C4 Cab, that I had for the last 11 years, traded in for a Panamera 4S. I enjoy it, but, miss the stick shift and the "roofless" drives !

The mileage should be in the range of 50k miles.
I would like to know if RMS/IMS have been done or not.
Black over black would be a great preference, but, ..will take also a white with black interior, (as well as a sealgray).

I have some ideas of what I will do with this car, so, according to the pricing (the payment will be cash) :
. If title is salvaged, with a good explanation, it would be OK
. If tires are worn, it would be OK
. If the roof/rear window need too be fixed, it would be OK
. If seats are not in good shape, it would be OK
. If the engine has problem, it still could be OK, ..if the car is not too far (i.e.: ..to tow it back) to the San Francisco Bay area.

Thanks in advance to all of you that would help me find such car.

Have you contacted Flat6 Innovations to see if they have a lead on a car they need to fix or one that has been fixed? If I were in the market again I would go this route. They've posted that most high mileage engines they've come across have needed either a little or a lot of lifter work. I'm sure this applies to the Carreras as well.

Was your C4 a 3.4? I ask because the 3.2 Boxster had the more robust cylinder walls that the Carrera 3.4 did not. So perhaps your upgrade to a Boxster is a good choice on that end.

Thanks for the info, I do not know "Flat6 innovations".
Will take a look.
This evening, I went to see one, a 2001, with 72k miles and a new engine (under warranty) in 2003 after about 21k miles.
So, the IMS/RMS is the original (the good kit came later) and now 2nd engine is approaching the mid 50 (k miles) life crisis !
It was a dark blue with tan interior.

By the way, my C4 was a 2002 996, 2nd gen, so it was a 3.6, not a 3.4.
I got the RMS failure around 2005, and it was replaced (under warranty) with the new kit, so, I was OK.

For information, I saw yesterday evening a 2001 Navy Blue (Boxster S) with Tan interior.
The option list is : CO2, 239, 265, 280, 288, 413, 446, 454, 476, 490, 502, 551, 584, 601, 696
RMS failure in 2003 (21k miles, and engine was changed under warranty).
Current miles are around 73k, ..or 52k for the engine.
I decided to pass, mostly because of the color combo and a little because of the 52k of an engine, ..that is still equipped with the old RMS (per a 2003 exchange).
The car is in the SF Bay area (East of S.F.)

I would skip the RMS failure also. Sounds like you lucked out but addressing that issue is not always a guarantee that the issue has been fixed. Many cars have had 2nd, 3rd and 4th RMS leaks.

Flat6 Innovations are one of the best known m96 engine rebuilding/upgrading shops. They are very well known here.

The best route to take when buying any Porsche is go through the online community first. Use those dealer and private party listings if you're in a rush. An enthusiast owned car beats a casual driver Porsche for maintenance and proper driving. With these engines treating them too gingerly, letting them sit or only driving them short distances, shifting well below 3,000 RPM, not using the right oil, etc. can lead to costly problems.

Default RMS failure???????

Huh?

RMSs leak maybe? except when it becomes a huge leak, it is benign.

Or do you mean IMS failure? If so, it got a new motor.. hardly a bad thing.
