The cost of this hobby is a good reason to be frugal. Smart buying and "simply saying no" to un necessary doo dads can cut the price by a lot. That said, the BK extensions pop up rarely. But do keep your eyes out for other stuff you'll eventually want. I'd also suggest becoming familiar with doing your own brakes, fluid, and other consumables.

GSR in Southern California make a really nice roll bar extension at a reasonable price. http://store.gospecracing.com/gsraut...extension.aspx

I found a BK bar and padding setup -- I believe I paid just under $500 shipped.
Regardless of whether I have the $$ to do so - I'm always thinking what else
could those $$ be doing for me. So yes you can be frugal in anything you do,
just realize there is cost of opportunity & cost for your time.
There is no reason to pay top dollar for everything -- but my wife always
reminds me -- don't swallow a camel and choke on a gnat.
There is always someone clearing out their Champagne collection at good beer prices :-)
If you're patient -- I'm sure you can find something.
Have I mixed enough metaphors yet?

Roll bar extensions rarely pop up used, and the cheapest I have ever seen one sell for was $500. So $600-700 for a new one is not that bad. I had not seen that GSR one, glad to see someone finally giving BK some competition!
