Default Tire pressure keeps "learning" - any tricks?

I have a friend that has a 2007 boxster that is haveing a "learning" issue after changing tires. They are the same size and type as OE. The tire pressure monitoring system seems to be stuck in learing mode. We have tried everything as described in the owners manual... no luck.

Have any of you seen this. Thanks in advance.....

Cheers, Mike

I had this happen when one TPMS sensor battery started to die. The system bounced between working and "learning" for a few weeks until the battery finally died. My car is 2007 also, and I was told that the battery lifespan is between 5-7 years.

Thanks for the reply- is there any way to know what wheel or is it best to replace them all...?

Cheers, Mike

Try setting it for a different set-up (winter tires, different size)... let it run through and then set it back to the correct settings. Cayenne's had this issue a lot and it would sometimes solve it.

There's no replacing the battery. You would have to replace the whole sensor ( 997.606.023.02) Dealer: $158.69 each.

This same exact thing is happening to my 2007 Cayman (121,000 miles). Unfortunately I JUST put new tires on the car.

You will probably see a drastic difference in the readings in one of the tires. Like in our case, the right front will jump from reading low 25psi at start-up and jump to a crazy 59psi a few miles later.

When it happend to me I watched the TPMS readouts on the dash (you have to find the proper setting to show the tire pressure on the dash readout) and saw that one sensor was not providing a reading.

Needed to reset TPM after new tires for 2009 Carrera 4. My wife determined the owner's manual wasn't user friendly and is a poor translation of engineer speak - often says "push operating lever forward", should read "push operating lever away" or "toward dash". She was able to select summer or winter tires but no option for 18" or 19" tire size in system.
Starting on page 145 of owner's manual, once the "Process Complete" appears and the on-board computer display reads "TPM is learning, monitoring not act." instead of sitting there waiting for it to learn as we did for several minutes, wife discovered you must drive the vehicle just over 16 mph for about a minute. It suddenly learns and the tire pressure warning light icon and the red exclamation point disappear. You can then check the pressure function to see your tire pressure. Hope this helps.
