Default New Owner....Advice

Hi all. Just picked up a 99 Boxster, Automatic, Midnight Blue/Savannah Beige.

61,500 miles.

PPI was clean and carfax was clear.

I am looking for advice on how to avoid the Dreaded IMS Failure. Other than keeping the service up to date, What else can I do?

Thanks All

1. Replace the IMS with a part designed to be longer life and lubricated a differnt way than the original.

2. There is no other way of preventing the problem, all other advice may lessen the odds a bit. The usual advice is drive a lot, don't baby the revs once the car is totally warm, change the oil at 3-4k miles and use good oil...and there are massive debates over what "good oil" means.

The usual references are to lnengineering and flat6innovations web sites.

The reason you might have gotten a "search" answer is so many are tired of IMS discussions as it has been discussed on every Porsche forum for the last several years..

Reams have been written on this website. All you have to do is look, and ye shall find.

P.S. Good luck with your car....you'll come to love it.

Buy an IMS Guardian for $400 from Flat6 Innovations. Click here for a very long thread about this - https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=75404

drive the car regularly, maintain it religiously and don't worry - if its gonna happen its gonna happen.

Its like wandering around wondering if you're going to die every second. Needless stress.
