Default 1997 Price opinions

Newport Coast Auto in Newport Beach CA has a white 1997 with 58k miles for sale for $14.9k

Price is pretty high for a 97, although most I have seen are around 9-10 with >100k on them. this one has a new top with glass rear window, what looks like new Conti's, 60k service complete, all records and pictures look great, no apparent exterior issues and interior looks pretty clean as well. Car has Sport Touring option, heated seats, traction control, 6 cd changer.

Have not gone to look at the car yet, and would of course get PPI before buying, but is 12-13k too much for a car in his shape.

I know I could get a 2.7 for this money, but I kinda like the 2.5's. I have come from Alfa's, so all boxsters are plenty fast

Thanks for any opinions.

Len,

For that price you can even get a 00 "S" with milage in the mid 60s. That is WAY TOO MUCH for a 97..

Thanks, From what I've seen so far I knew 14.9 was way high, what is a reasonable price for a really nice 97 with 60k. I don't mind paying a bit more for a good car that has been well cared for, but clearly don't want to pay way too much either.

Thanks

Len

Market are very local. You will need to look around for possible comparison.
Lack of competition usually implies premium.

For comparison sake, I paid $15,400 for 2001 Boxster with 2.7L H6 and five speed manual. It has color matched roll bars, heated seats, 17 inch wheels with painted crests, 54,000 miles, dealer put on new top and new water pump, and came with 2 month warranty on drivetrain, brakes, and A/C. Bought it from Audi dealer used car department that sells about 3-4 used Boxsters/year. I bought in March of this year. Only money so far I have put into it is new wiper blades. Before taking delivery, I made price contingent upon full coolant flush and putting proper Porsche recommended coolant into it instead of the "green" stuff, and clean out radiator area on both sides. They originally wanted $16,700, but I got them down to $15,400 contigent upon it passing a PPI plus a few other maintenance issues described above. So far a great car.

Just sold a 58k '01S for $13.5 needing nothing with fresh PS2s, history, etc. Your price can be beat.
