Default Here's what I found in blown engine number 2....

metal shavings the size of a dime. Looks as though someone with a wood plane has been inside the engine?!? This was stuck to the handy magnetic drain plug that I got from LN. Any guesses as to the cause/source of the filings and shavings?

Yikes.. no guesses here.. how does the oil filter look when you cut it open? How did the rest of the oil look when it came out? What do you suspect happened?

Well, that's one way to keep the mileage down on your car.

Yes, it was still running, but sounded like a bag full of wrenches when I shut it down. I had just installed the LN IMS upgrade, so I am hoping that is not the culprit. I am leaning towards rod bearing. I will be tearing the engine down over the next few weeks and will report the findings!

Yeah, If you heard those wrenches I don't think it was the IMS either, good luck

That really, really SUCKS !!!!

Maybe the chains have rubbed through the plastic and now grinding the cast/aluminum chain guide frame.

But aluminum is not going to stick to a magnetic drain bolt. Only ferous engine bits will. So what does that leave us with...cams and crank would seem like the most likely culprits.
