Default Headlamp bulb variants

I did a search, but did not find the answer I was looking for.

One of my low-beam headlamps is out, and I was looking for a replacement. Most research I've done shows that I have the standard halogen system and that I need an H7 bulb. Trouble is, I see that PelicanParts only sells H1, H34 or H5 variants, and not sure why I cannot get the H7's. To make things confusing, I see some older posts about people wondering if they can run the H7's, but most warn that the H7 is too hot.

They also sell the HID (Xenon) headlight kit for $120, and I'm now thinking I should just upgrade them. I realize that I won't have the Litronic system, but not too worried about that. Again, the trouble is, they sell H7, H8, & H9 variants, and I'm again wondering which version I should get.

Wikipedia explains it this way:

H7 (55 W @ 12.0 V, 1500 lm ±10% @ 13.2 V)
H8 (35 W @ 12.0 V, 800 lm ±15% @ 13.2 V)
H9 (65 W @ 12.0 V, 2100 lm ±10% @ 13.2 V)

for the boxster the correct bulb is the H7 (55W) if you put anything brighter in there it will melt the bulb housing

Thanks. For whatever reason (PEBKAC or ID10T virus), when I check Pelican Parts, it now shows that the H7 is the correct part. I must have been looking at the wrong part before. Thanks.

Next time that happens ... swap it with the high beam which is also H7.

I switched my low beam bulbs to the Philips X-tream Power bulbs which give about 80% more light at 55W. The beam pattern is better as well as it throws a bit more light to the sides than the stock bulb. It's where they place the filiment along the bulb as well as the end cap colour which gives off more forward light. Google these bulbs, good spot to get it is from powerbulbs web site. I have these in my Boxster as well as my new F150 which has the H13/2008 combo bulb.

Hi Both,

OK here's a good question: Ive moved from the UK to the Netherlands with my little Boxter 986 2003. The only thing is I went to get a APK (MOT) and they say that the beams on the headlamps are not pointing the right direction (for RHD not LHD) and also my fog light on the rear is on the wrong side.
I really don't want to fork out for 4 lights, it there a way to adjust the headlamps to point in the right direction and can I swap the fog lamp to the other side?

This may be a a hard question, as I've been searching for hours on the net.

Thanks
Jason

Go to Daniel Stern Lighting for more info ... but, you need to swap out the bulbs from RHD to LHD due to the light pattern they cast. Look at a website in UK called Powerbulbs for the right ones to get for your car. BTW ... powerbulbs is the cheapest ones I have found cost wise.
