What do you guys think of this one:
2003 S
99K miles
Color: Midnight Blue Metalic on black
Options:
Base model $51600
Metalic color $825
Bose/Windstop $1860
Xenons $1090
Door sills/ insignia $425
Special Chassis Rigidly tuned ??? $705
Tip $3210
18" Turbo Wheels $1435
CD shelf $45
Wheel Caps $175
PSM $1235
On Board Computer $280
Remote CD Changer $715
Mats/lettering $95

Two owners, no accedents. Exterior/Interior in great shape (according to the seller).

Maintanance records (for the second owner only) show RMS done at 57K, water pump at 98K. Roof cables and roof trans just done, as well as trans cooler hoses. Car has four new tires. DRL already done. New brakes (with rotors) done at 85K. Looks like the second owner maintained the car properly. However, no paperwork for the first owner. Nothing, not even on a carfax.

My question is: Do you think its worth $16000? And what the heck is Special Chassis Rigidly tuned?

P.S. Similar cars with 40K-50K miles are selling for $22-23K. The difference is 70% of what the new motor will cost. But there is no sign that this is comming.

Thats pretty cheap, is it in Canada seeing it already has DRL installed?

It's a little high but in the last 20k has been in for servicing to I would assume has been maintained and kept up to date.
The 03-04 are my ideal boxster, updated bumpers, glass rear window and glovebox. That would be the car I would buy if I didnt want to build one.

I say its a good deal especially at that price for an S

It sounds like a fairly good deal, as long as the paint is original and it does not leak oil.

Thanks guys. I will try to arrange a PPI for next week. I just dread the importation process. I have done it twice before and its a PITA. Let you know what the PPI finds then maybe you will talk some sense into me.

030 is the option number I suspect and it is defined as: Sport Chassis with more rigidly tuned springs & shocks, spring plates (front & rear).

Look for the option list on a sticker inside the front hood and decode each 3 digit number to see what options were on the car originally. The dealer who does your PPI may be able to give you a printout based on the VIN.

Nice to hear from you, Mike. And thank you for the most informative and resourcefull boxster site on the net, IMO. Thanks to it, I have found the "Grandmother" and got the info I needed. I have decided to send this car for a PPI. Hope not to find anything wrong with it, as I believe this might be a nice example, even though with 100K miles (just means more experience, right?). Color, options, condition (if confirmed by a tech) is perfect. Mileage is something I invest in my cars, and I would buy a used car from me in a heart beat.

What do You think of this car?

In case your PPI fails, check out this one (it's local). No affiliation...

Well, it passed the PPI today with flying colors. The tech said that if the price is right he would buy it.
Here is what he found:
Cons: Sway bar bushings need to be replaced soon, 15% left on rear brake pads, two small stone chips in the windshield, needs front left park lamp. THATS IT!
Pros: NO OIL LEAKS, New water pump, new trans hoses, 75% left on front brakes, CV boots ok, no rattles, 4 new Pirellis, never hit rev limiter, never been painted.

Huge thanks to our fellow rennlister Jerry in Vancouver who came out to see the car and be my eyes and ears. I owe you one, pal.

Now I dread the import proccess

Finally got her home. Will have to take some pics still, but wanted to share my impression after the first day in it. I am impressed! The ride is comfortable, yet agile and sure. The weight transfer is easily managable. The throttle responce is a bit delayed, to my liking. Steering is a bit stiffer than I prefer (something to get used to). Brake pedal requires more pressure than on any other Porsche I drove. Kinda feels like my Denalli did, weird. This is also the first tip for me, so maybe that's normal? Gonna flush the brakes and upgrade the fluid on wednesday. Seats are fenominaly comfy compared to my 997.2. Bose sounds great. Zenons look hot. Open air motoring at its second best (nothing still beats a Harley ). Thanks all. Money Well Spent.

Can you guys recomend a good performance brake fluid. Anything I can do to improve brake pedal response without spending an arm and a leg (just an arm is fine).

Pics to follow

Cheers
Stan
