Help me spend my money
Hello everyone. Name is Stan from 997 heck of the woods. I know you Boxster guys are fun people. I know we all love spending other's money, so why not. Plus I will get a free advice.
Thanks in advance for your time
The wife wants a toy. All she said was "...Boxster in a fun color. And it has to be tiptronic". I got a budget of just $20-25K. After reading all the posts for the last few weeks, I guess 01-02 Boxster/S is in that range. But I am thinking I can have more fun with this money than just a stock car. Maybe find a cheaper donor for a full body makeover. Maybe upgrade suspension/exhaust/intake/rims while I am at it. The idea is for the wifey to have her toy and for me to be able to use it
So what would you do? Please include details if possible (parts manufacturers, links, etc). Please avoid using words like "pink"or "soft".
P.S. I know the reliability will drop; I know the "resale value" will drop; I am aware that its a bad idea. But it sounds so tempting.
Cheers
Stan

White S, black interior with white stitching, black Porsche logo along the door sill, maybe a duck's *** tail.
Brake pad upgrade because stock only last about 20 minutes at the track
lower the suspension a little bit
find some REAL cup holders (I like my coffee on the morning drive to work, what can I say?)

Boxster S.. and PSS9s. Simple and effective.
if you can swing it, an 03 S would be a little nicer.. small hp bump but also the Glass rear window.. which means not having to hop out and do a "chop" in cooler weather to prevent the plastic from tearing.
As for color, I too thought it should be a "fun" color.. So manu drap silvers/gray/black out there.
Maybe another Speed yellow like your avitar? Arena Red?

FYI- just picked up a Rain Forest Green Metallic (there's a fun color- wife loves it) 2000 "S" for mid-teens $ in great shape. Look around a little - they're out there.

03-04 tip Boxster S should be in that price range, too; has the advantage of glass top, cupholders and glove box.
One nice mod would be an aftermarket nav unit. Easier with 01-02 than with 03-04 (MOST), which also require replacing the amp.
Get some good vinyl and decorate it up like a track car, too

Thanks guys.
Arnaud, thats a real nice one, but I bet the cost will exceed my budget.
So far, I have narrowed it down to a few options:
1. Get an 01/02 S (something like this one: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb )for around $15K, PSS9, brakes, maybe some appearance improvements or..
2. Get on 03/04 ( http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb) or..
3. Get a small loan and get this one http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb
Should I stay away from high mileage cars (close to or just over 100K)?

Snag a boxster with a blown engine, drop in a 3.4/3.6/3.8, upgrade brakes and you have a cute convertible for her to drive and a rocket for you to drive. I don't know if you want to go installing stuff like coilovers and loud exhaust, unless you just want it to become your car when she gets annoyed of driving it. As for rims, I don't know about your wife but most women I know don't pay attention to their wheels and couldn't care less if they drug a rim along a curb.

How did the sound meter work for you? Did you get your exhaust sorted or did you have to put on directional tips. BTW racing is dreadful I would not recommend it to a friend
