Powder-coated sport classic wheels
My winter project was to refinish the sport classic wheels on my '03 986S. I took them apart and polished the rims to clean off all the corrosion. The centers were sent to a local powder coater. I went with a gloss black color. It's finally done, with the tires mounted and a nice enough day to wash the car for pictures:
Here's a shot from two years ago - what they originally looked like:

Looks Spiff.
I'm in the process of doing that to my sport classic II's. I dissassembled them this past weekend and here soon I plan to sandblast all the parts, refinish and buff the outer lip, paint the inner part of the wheel barrel black, then powdercoat the centers black.
BTW, did you have the spokes powdercoated on the back surface where it mates to the rim or did you have them leave a bare metal ring? Also, what torque did you use for reinstall and did you use locktite? i've read different stuff on this.
Enjoy that nice car.

Marc - that's right, my bad - sport design.
Tom - the entire center portion was sand blasted and only the flat portion at the hub interface was masked off during coating. For re-assembly, I torqued the screws to 20 ft-lbs, using loctite 242. The powder coating is thick, but the centers fit perfectly in the rim. In retrospect, I should have had the internal hub ring portion masked as well, since they are hub-centric wheels. I had to sand off the coating to get them to fit on the hub.

My biggest hold up has been the sandblasting. The factory grey finish is a combo of hard primer and expoxy paint and my harbor freight blaster didnt make much of it in any rapid fashon. I recently contacted a commercial sandblaster and hope to have my rims to him by end of the week. Good thing i have couple sets of rims :P
