Question Clutch life expectancy

02 Boxter S with 68K miles in the shop for clutch replacement. "Normal" driving except for 9 track days - none in the past 10K miles.
My trustworthy local shop surprised it has lasted this long, mentioning they see clutch replacements on Boxsters closer to 45K. Mine had the RMS replaced under warrantee, along with resurfacing the pressure plate, at 20K miles. Shop owner thinks that's why mine has gone as far as it has.

Looking for comments on the life expectancy of a Boxster S clutch. Can I expect to be doing this again in about 45,000 miles? (stil on the original clutch in my 1995 Honda Civic with 220K miles.......)

Your trustworthy shop doesn't know Porsche clutches or it is surrounded by Porsche owners who can't drive a stick shift equipped car. (What I suspect some are doing is using the clutch as a brake, downshifting then letting teh clutch out slowly to slow the car. This will shorten clutch life considerably.)

Unless the clutch abused there's no reason why it shouldn't last way beyond 45K miles.

My time in an S was limited to just a few hours while my base Boxster was in the shop for some minor warranty work so I can't say with 100% confidence but I don't recall any difficulty getting the S to move away from a stop.

With 100% confidence, from years of driving my 02 Boxster 5-speed I can get my 02 Boxster moving off from a dead stop with little clutch slippage and wtihout the herky-jerkiness either from a too abrupt clutch release.

BTW, my 02 Boxster's clutch is original and has more miles (229K) than your Honda's.

Sincerely,

Macster.

the original clutch in my 986 lasted through around 120k & i race the car. even did a few autocrosses w/ VERY aggressive starts. at 68k, you have nothing to worry about (unless you are a bad driver, hold the car on hills w/ the clutch, etc)
